Michael Cera

Michael Austin Cera is a Canadian actor and musician born on June 7, 1988. He is widely recognized for his comedic film and television roles, as well as his work in voice acting and theater. Over the course of his career, Cera has received nominations for a British Academy Film Award, three Critics' Choice Movie Awards, four Screen Actors Guild Awards, and a Tony Award.

Cera was born in Brampton, Ontario, to parents Linda and Luigi Cera. He grew up with an older sister, Jordan, and a younger sister, Molly. He developed an interest in acting at three years old after repeatedly watching Ghostbusters, and later took improvisation classes at The Second City in Toronto. His early work included appearances in commercials for Tim Hortons and Pillsbury. In 1999, he was cast in the Canadian children's show I Was a Sixth Grade Alien and made his theatrical film debut in Frequency (2000). He also held early voice roles, including Josh Spitz in Braceface and Brother Bear in The Berenstain Bears.

Cera achieved widespread prominence portraying George Michael Bluth in the Fox sitcom Arrested Development, which ran from 2003 to 2006 before being revived by Netflix. Following this success, Cera starred in a series of prominent comedic films in 2007, playing leading roles in Superbad and Juno. His performances in both films earned him the Breakthrough Artist award from the Austin Film Critics Association. He subsequently starred in Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008), Paper Heart (2009), Year One (2009), Youth in Revolt (2009), and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010).

In addition to film and television, Cera established a career in theater. He made his stage debut in Kenneth Lonergan's play This Is Our Youth in 2012, later appearing in its 2014 Broadway production. He earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his performance in Lonergan's Lobby Hero in 2018, and subsequently appeared in The Waverly Gallery in 2019. Cera has also taken supporting roles in films such as Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002), This Is the End (2013), Molly's Game (2017), Person to Person (2017), Gloria Bell (2019), Barbie (2023), Dream Scenario (2023), and The Phoenician Scheme (2025).

Cera's extensive voice acting work includes Dick Grayson / Robin in The Lego Batman Movie (2017), Barry in Sausage Party (2016) and its sequel series Sausage Party: Foodtopia (2024), Hank in Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank (2022), and reprising his role as Scott Pilgrim in the Netflix animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023). On television, Cera took a leading role in the Hulu comedy series Life & Beth (2022–2024). Beyond acting, Cera is a musician who released his debut album, True That, in 2014, and has performed as the touring bassist for the indie rock supergroup Mister Heavenly.
