Her feature film credits include I Love You, Man, The Social Network, Our Idiot Brother, The Muppets, Celeste and Jesse Forever (which she co-wrote), and Tag. She also co-wrote the story for Toy Story 4. Jones was born in Los Angeles to musician and record producer Quincy Jones and actress Peggy Lipton. She is the younger sister of Kidada Jones and has five half-siblings. Jones attended The Buckley School, where she participated in theater and was named to the National Honor Society. She later attended Harvard University, studying religion and philosophy while taking part in various performing arts groups, dramatic clubs, and musical directing. She graduated from Harvard in 1997. Jones began her screen career with roles in miniseries and television shows such as The Last Don, Freaks and Geeks, and Boston Public, the latter of which earned her an NAACP Image Award nomination. She subsequently appeared in films including Full Frontal, Now You Know, Little Black Book, and short films. In 2006, she joined the cast of The Office, which led to further comedic and dramatic roles across film and web series, including Brief Interviews with Hideous Men and I Love You, Man. From 2009 to 2014, Jones starred as nurse Ann Perkins on Parks and Recreation. During this period, she expanded her writing work, co-writing the feature screenplay for Celeste and Jesse Forever, selling screen rights to her comic book series Frenemy of the State, and taking film roles in The Social Network, Monogamy, Friends with Benefits, and The Muppets. She was later cast as the lead in the comedy series Angie Tribeca, which ran from 2016 to 2019. Outside of acting, Jones has produced documentary content, including the 2015 film Hot Girls Wanted and its 2017 spin-off series Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On, for which she also directed an episode. In 2018, she directed the Netflix documentary Quincy about her father. Her work as a television writer includes co-writing the teleplay for the Black Mirror episode "Nosedive." She has also co-written the pilot for The Other Black Girl and worked on animated projects, including providing voice work for Spies in Disguise and Duncanville. Jones's creative achievements include a Grammy Award win for Best Music Film for Quincy in 2019, alongside nominations for a Golden Globe Award and Primetime Emmy Awards. In 2025, she was named one of Time's 100 most influential people in the world and earned a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards for her performance in the Black Mirror episode "Common People".
