Armie Hammer

Armand Douglas Hammer is an American actor best known for his portrayals of identical twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss in the biographical drama The Social Network and Oliver in the romantic drama Call Me by Your Name. After starting his career with television guest appearances, he secured his first leading film role in Billy: The Early Years. Over the course of his career, Hammer has appeared in feature films, biographical dramas, and Broadway theatre productions.

Hammer was born on August 28, 1986, in Santa Monica, California, to Dru Ann Mobley, a former bank loan officer, and Michael Armand Hammer, a business owner. He grew up alongside a younger brother and lived in Texas, the Cayman Islands, and Los Angeles. He attended Faulkner's Academy and Grace Christian Academy in the Cayman Islands, as well as Los Angeles Baptist High School. Hammer left high school in the eleventh grade to pursue acting, later taking college courses at UCLA. Although his parents initially disowned him for leaving school, they later became supportive of his acting career.

Hammer made his professional debut with guest appearances on television series including Arrested Development, Veronica Mars, Gossip Girl, Reaper, and Desperate Housewives. His early film work included roles in Flicka, Blackout, and Billy: The Early Years, playing evangelist Billy Graham and earning a Grace Award nomination. In 2010, Hammer achieved his breakthrough performance in David Fincher's The Social Network, winning a Toronto Film Critics Association Award. He followed this with his role as Clyde Tolson in Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar, earning a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination.

In subsequent years, Hammer played Prince Andrew Alcott in Mirror Mirror, starred in the title role of The Lone Ranger, and portrayed Illya Kuryakin in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. His role in the 2017 film Call Me by Your Name earned him critical acclaim along with nominations for a Golden Globe Award, a Critics' Choice Award, and an Independent Spirit Award. That same year, he voiced Jackson Storm in Cars 3 and appeared in Final Portrait.

Hammer expanded his work with roles in The Birth of a Nation, Nocturnal Animals, Free Fire, Mine, Sorry to Bother You, Hotel Mumbai, and On the Basis of Sex, portraying Martin D. Ginsburg. In 2018, he made his Broadway debut playing Drew in Straight White Men and received an Outstanding Achievement in Cinema award from the SCAD Savannah Film Festival. He later starred in Wounds, Rebecca, Crisis, and Death on the Nile.

In 2021, three women accused Hammer of sexual and emotional abuse. Hammer denied all allegations, and following an investigation, law enforcement and prosecutors declined to pursue criminal charges due to insufficient evidence. During this period, he exited several projects and was dropped by his agency and publicist. In 2024, he launched the podcast Armie HammerTime. He returned to acting in the 2025 western Frontier Crucible and starred in the 2026 film Citizen Vigilante.
