Christopher Shyer

Christopher Shyer, occasionally credited as Chris Shyer, is a Canadian-American performer who has built an extensive acting career across screen and stage productions. Over the course of his professional trajectory, he has accumulated credits in more than a hundred different television and feature film projects.

Beginning in 1994, Shyer established a steady presence on television through numerous guest appearances. His early small-screen work included roles on series such as Viper and The New Outer Limits. Over time, he expanded his television credits with appearances on popular network dramas, including Smallville, Monk, JAG, CSI: Miami, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Among his notable television portrayals was a critically praised recurring part as Lawrence O'Malley, a character reminiscent of Hannibal Lecter, on the legal drama The Practice.

In addition to his guest-starring roles, Shyer secured a major supporting cast position in the reimagined television series V, broadcast by ABC. In this science-fiction drama, he portrayed Marcus, the second-in-command to Anna, the primary commander played by Morena Baccarin.

Parallel to his television work, Shyer has appeared in a wide variety of feature films. His motion picture resume includes the 1998 drama The Falling, in which he played the character Lars, followed by a role as Joel Gellman in the 2003 movie The Invitation. Subsequent film credits feature his appearances as John Boyd in the 2004 release The Lazarus Child, Dr. Leffler in the 2005 picture Fierce People, and Charlie Cowley in the 2006 project Big Bad Wolf.

Beyond his work in front of the camera, Shyer has maintained a prominent career in theatrical arts, participating in major stage productions across Canada and the United States. His Canadian theater endeavors included engagements in high-profile musicals, such as Miss Saigon and Les Misérables, where he performed as Joly and understudied the role of Marius Pontmercy. He also portrayed Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny in The Phantom of the Opera, John Wilkes Booth in Assassins, and Artie Green in Sunset Boulevard.

Shyer later transitioned to Broadway and touring theater. On Broadway, he took on the starring roles of Sam Carmichael in the hit musical Mamma Mia! and Dean Newhouse in Going Down Swingin’. His live performance resume also encompasses touring productions throughout the United States, including playing four distinct supporting characters in a national tour of The Book of Mormon, as well as being cast as Governor John Slaton for the 2025 American tour of the musical Parade.
