Alec Baldwin

Alexander Rae Baldwin III is an American actor and film producer known for his versatile performances across comedy and drama in film, television, and theater. Over his career, he has earned numerous accolades, including three Primetime Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and eight Screen Actors Guild Awards, along with nominations for an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and a Tony Award.

Born on April 3, 1958, in Amityville, New York, Baldwin was raised in Massapequa, New York. He is the eldest son of Carol Newcomb and Alexander Rae Baldwin Jr., a high school history teacher and football coach. He grew up in a Catholic family of Irish, French, and English descent alongside five siblings, including three younger brothers who also became actors. Baldwin attended George Washington University before transferring to New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and later earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1994.

Baldwin began his acting career on television, making his debut on the daytime soap opera The Doctors in 1980. After appearing in television series like Knots Landing and television movies such as Dress Gray, he made his Broadway debut in Loot in 1986 and his feature film debut in Forever, Lulu in 1987. His breakthrough arrived in 1988 with roles in major films including Beetlejuice, Working Girl, and Married to the Mob. He gained further recognition as a leading man playing Jack Ryan in the hit thriller The Hunt for Red October in 1990 and starring in Glengarry Glen Ross in 1992.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Baldwin established himself in both dramatic and comedic roles. On stage, he earned a Tony Award nomination for portraying Stanley Kowalski in a 1992 Broadway revival of A Streetcar Named Desire. His film roles during this era included The Shadow, Pearl Harbor, The Aviator, and The Departed. In 2003, his performance as a casino manager in The Cooler earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He also earned a BAFTA Award nomination for his role in the 2009 romantic comedy It's Complicated.

Baldwin achieved major television success starring as network executive Jack Donaghy on the NBC sitcom 30 Rock from 2006 to 2013, winning two Primetime Emmys, three Golden Globes, and seven SAG Awards for the role. Additionally, he has hosted Saturday Night Live a record 17 times, winning an Emmy Award in 2017 for his portrayal of Donald Trump. He also narrated seasons five and six of Thomas & Friends, hosted the game show Match Game from 2016 to 2021, and co-hosted the 82nd Academy Awards in 2010.

His later film work includes Blue Jasmine, two Mission: Impossible films, and voicing the lead character in The Boss Baby franchise. In 2024, he starred in the Western film Rust, which drew media attention after a 2021 incident in which cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed when Baldwin accidentally discharged a live round from a prop revolver. Baldwin, his wife Hilaria, and their seven children are also the focus of the TLC reality series The Baldwins.
