Mike Myers

Michael John Myers, born May 25, 1963, is a Canadian and American actor, comedian, filmmaker, musician, and singer. He is widely recognized for his comedic performances on television and in film, most notably as a cast member on Saturday Night Live and for starring in the Wayne's World, Austin Powers, and Shrek franchises. Over his career, he has earned a Primetime Emmy Award, seven MTV Movie & TV Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Myers was raised in Scarborough and North York, Ontario, by his parents, Alice "Bunny" E. and Eric Myers, who were British immigrants from Liverpool and World War II veterans. He attended Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute and graduated from Stephen Leacock Collegiate Institute in 1982. Myers began performing in commercials at age eight and made early television appearances on Canadian shows such as King of Kensington and The Littlest Hobo.

After high school, Myers joined The Second City Canadian touring company. In 1985, he co-founded The Comedy Store Players in London, England, and appeared on the British television show Wide Awake Club. He subsequently returned to Canada to perform with The Second City in Toronto before moving to Chicago to perform at the Improv Olympic. During the 1980s, he developed several characters on Canadian television, including Wayne Campbell on Citytv and CBC Television's It's Only Rock & Roll.

Myers joined NBC's Saturday Night Live in January 1989, remaining a cast member until 1995. On the show, he created recurring characters such as Dieter, Linda Richman, and Wayne Campbell, winning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. In 1992, he made his feature film debut by adapting his sketch into the comedy hit Wayne's World, followed by Wayne's World 2 and So I Married an Axe Murderer in 1993.

In 1997, Myers achieved further success by writing and starring in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, playing multiple characters across three films in the franchise. Beginning in 2001, he voiced the title character in the animated film Shrek, reprising the role in several sequels and television specials. His additional film credits include 54, The Cat in the Hat, The Love Guru, Inglourious Basterds, Terminal, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Amsterdam.

Myers made his directorial debut with the 2013 documentary Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon. He later hosted a reboot of The Gong Show from 2017 to 2018 in character as Tommy Maitland, and created, executive produced, and starred in the 2022 Netflix series The Pentaverate. His honors include a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002 and being named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2017.

Myers was married to Robin Ruzan from 1993 to 2005. He married scenic artist Kelly Tisdale in 2010, and the couple has three children. In 2016, Myers published a memoir titled Canada.
