Daniel Tosh

Daniel Dwight Tosh is an American comedian, writer, and producer known for his stand-up comedy and television work. He is widely recognized as the host of the Comedy Central series Tosh.0 from 2009 to 2020, where he delivered narrative comedic dialogue over popular Internet video clips. Known for his deliberately offensive and controversial style of black comedy, Tosh has also starred in stand-up comedy specials and embarked on multiple national tours.

Tosh was born on May 29, 1975, in Boppard, Rhineland-Palatinate, West Germany, to American parents. The son of a Presbyterian minister, he grew up in Titusville, Florida, alongside one brother and two sisters. After graduating from Astronaut High School in 1993, he attended the University of Central Florida, graduating in December 1996 with a degree in marketing. Following brief work as a telemarketer, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in comedy.

Immediately after graduating from college, Tosh began touring the comedy club circuit. He appeared as one of the New Faces at the 1998 Just for Laughs festival in Montreal, and his act was televised there in 2000 at the Théâtre Saint-Denis. Tosh achieved his career break in 2001 after a performance on the Late Show with David Letterman. He subsequently appeared on programs such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and Comedy Central's Premium Blend, while hosting a local Florida late-night comedy show called Tens and serving as a Taco Bell commercial spokesman.

In 2003, Tosh performed in his own 30-minute special on Comedy Central Presents. He went on to release stand-up specials on Comedy Central, including Daniel Tosh: Completely Serious in 2007 and Daniel Tosh: Happy Thoughts in 2011. Tosh hosted Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, appeared on MTV's Punk'd, played a small role in the feature film The Love Guru, and voiced the character Malloy while serving as an executive producer on the animated series Brickleberry. From 2010 to 2015, Tosh headlined his own series of comedy tours. In November 2023, he launched the podcast Tosh Show on YouTube and Apple Podcasts alongside his Tahoe neighbor Eddie.

Beyond his main entertainment projects, Tosh has participated in benefit performances for Alabama disaster relief and for the family of comedian Greg Giraldo. He has also hosted an annual stand-up event called Tosh Saves The World, which features fellow comedians and donates its proceeds to various charities. In his personal life, Tosh married writer Carly Hallam in Malibu, California, on April 17, 2016, and they have two children.
