Kelly Rowland

Kelendria Trene "Kelly" Rowland is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and television personality. She rose to fame in the late 1990s as a founding member of Destiny's Child, one of the world's best-selling girl groups. Alongside her group success, she established a solo music career and expanded into television judging, hosting, and acting in film and television productions.

Born on February 11, 1981, in Atlanta, Georgia, Rowland is the daughter of Doris Rowland-Garrison and Christopher Lovett. After her mother left her father, they relocated to Houston, where Rowland eventually lived with her bandmate Beyoncé. In the early 1990s, Rowland joined Beyoncé, Tamar Davis, and LaTavia Roberson in the group Girl's Tyme. Managed by Mathew Knowles, the group underwent lineup revisions and name changes before signing with Columbia Records as Destiny's Child.

Destiny's Child released their self-titled debut album in 1998, followed by their multi-platinum second album, The Writing's on the Wall, in 1999, which featured hit singles including "Bills, Bills, Bills", "Jumpin' Jumpin'", and "Say My Name". Despite internal group shifts and legal disputes, the finalized trio of Rowland, Beyoncé, and Michelle Williams achieved massive commercial success with albums like Survivor and Destiny Fulfilled. The group earned multiple Grammy Awards and sold millions of records worldwide before officially disbanding in 2006.

Rowland launched her solo music career during Destiny's Child's hiatus. In 2002, she featured on Nelly's chart-topping single "Dilemma", which won a Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Her debut solo album, Simply Deep (2002), topped the UK Albums Chart and included the hits "Stole" and "Can't Nobody". Around this time, she launched her acting career with recurring television roles and featured roles in films such as Freddy vs. Jason (2003) and The Seat Filler (2005).

Following the disbandment of Destiny's Child, Rowland released her second solo album, Ms. Kelly, in 2007, yielding the international hits "Like This" and "Work". She later explored electronic dance music, notably collaborating with David Guetta on the chart-topping "When Love Takes Over" in 2009. This sound influenced her third solo album, Here I Am (2011), which featured singles like "Commander" and "Motivation". Her fourth album, Talk a Good Game (2013), reached the top ten on the US Billboard 200 chart.

Beyond recording music, Rowland developed a career in television. She served as a judge on The X Factor UK and The X Factor USA, hosted The Fashion Show and Chasing Destiny, and coached on The Voice Australia and The Voice UK. Through her talent show stints, she is credited with forming the girl groups Little Mix and June's Diary. She has also engaged in philanthropic endeavors, co-founding the Survivor Foundation and serving as an ambassador for the Staying Alive Foundation.

Throughout her career, Rowland has earned numerous accolades, including four Grammy Awards, a Billboard Music Award, and two Soul Train Music Awards. As a member of Destiny's Child, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and as a solo artist, she has been honored by ASCAP and Essence for her contributions to music.
