Harrison Ford is an American actor who has attained cultural prominence through his lead roles in major cinematic franchises and acclaimed feature films. Known as an enduring Hollywood star and action hero, he gained worldwide fame portraying iconic figures across several decades of film history. Over his career, he has accumulated widespread industry recognition, receiving prestigious lifetime achievement honors along with nominations for major film, television, and acting awards.

Born on July 13, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, Ford was raised in a family with artistic and advertising ties. During his youth, he participated in the Boy Scouts, eventually attaining the rank of Life Scout. He completed high school in Park Ridge, Illinois, where he engaged in student broadcasting activities, before attending Ripon College in Wisconsin to study philosophy. It was during his final college year that he discovered an interest in acting after taking a drama class, despite ultimately leaving the institution prior to graduation.

Moving to Los Angeles in the mid-1960s, Ford secured early performance contracts and made uncredited appearances in films and television series. Frustrated by the limited roles available to him, he taught himself professional carpentry to support his family. This trade introduced him to key figures in the entertainment industry, leading to his casting in George Lucas's 1973 film American Graffiti.
