Chris Martin

Christopher Anthony John Martin is an English singer, songwriter, musician, and philanthropist best known as the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and pianist of the global rock band Coldplay. Born on March 2, 1977, in Exeter, Devon, England, Martin rose to international prominence in the early 2000s with the band's breakout single Yellow and debut studio album Parachutes. Over a multi-decade career, his soulful vocal style, melodic songwriting, and energetic stage presence have established him as one of the most prominent frontmen in contemporary popular music.

Early Life and Coldplay Formation

Martin attended Exeter Cathedral School and Sherborne School before enrolling at University College London, where he studied Ancient World Studies and graduated with first-class honors. During his orientation week at university in 1996, he met guitarist Jonny Buckland, with whom he formed a band originally named Pectoralz. Joined shortly after by bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion, the group officially renamed themselves Coldplay in 1998. After releasing early independent EPs, Coldplay signed with Parlophone Records in 1999 and achieved worldwide fame with critically acclaimed records such as A Rush of Blood to the Head and X&Y.
