Mackenzie Davis

Mackenzie Rio Davis is a Canadian actress born on April 1, 1987. After making her feature film debut in 2012, she gained recognition through prominent roles in television and cinema. Her notable work includes starring in the period drama series Halt and Catch Fire, an acclaimed episode of Black Mirror, and feature films such as The Martian, Blade Runner 2049, Tully, Terminator: Dark Fate, and Happiest Season, as well as leading the miniseries Station Eleven.

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Davis is the daughter of graphic designer Lotte and Liverpool-born hairdresser John Davis, who together founded the company AG Hair. She completed her high school education at Collingwood School in West Vancouver in 2005. She subsequently attended McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, before moving to New York City to study acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse.

Davis began her professional screen career with a debut in the 2012 feature drama Smashed. The following year, her role in the film The F Word earned her a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. From 2014 to 2017, she played software programming prodigy Cameron Howe on the AMC period drama Halt and Catch Fire, starring across the show's complete four-season run.

During her tenure on television, Davis expanded her film career with a role as NASA satellite communications engineer Mindy Park in the 2015 sci-fi feature The Martian. In 2016, she starred as Yorkie in "San Junipero," a critically praised installment of the anthology series Black Mirror that won two Emmy Awards. She was then cast as Mariette in Blade Runner 2049 (2017) and played the title character in the 2018 comedy-drama Tully. In 2019, she played an augmented super-soldier dispatched from the future to protect Dani Ramos in Terminator: Dark Fate.

In 2020, Davis starred opposite Finn Wolfhard and Brooklynn Prince in The Turning, playing Kate in a modern retelling of Henry James's 1898 horror novella The Turn of the Screw. That same year, she played Diana Hastings in Jon Stewart's political film Irresistible, which focuses on financial influence in American elections, and co-starred alongside Kristen Stewart in the romantic comedy Happiest Season. Having been cast in late 2019, she played a lead role in the 2021 HBO Max miniseries Station Eleven, earning a Critics' Choice Super Award for her performance.

Davis expanded into theater and filmmaking in the early 2020s. She performed as Isolde in Simon Stone's modernized production of Phaedra at London's National Theatre from February to April 2023, and made her directorial debut with the short film WOACA, which screened in the Short Cuts program at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. Her additional announced projects include the sci-fi comedy Alpha Gang by the Zellner Brothers and Justin Anderson's feature debut Swimming Home, adapted from Deborah Levy's novel.
