Toby Kebbell

Tobias Alistair Patrick Kebbell is an English actor recognized for his screen and stage performances across a wide variety of feature films and television productions. He first gained industry recognition for his early work in British independent cinema before establishing an international career. Over the course of his career, he has appeared in major studio blockbusters, television dramas, and theatrical plays.

Kebbell was born on 9 July 1982 in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, as the fourth of five children. Raised in a Catholic household, he attended a Catholic primary school and grew up in Newark on Trent, Nottinghamshire, where he attended The Grove School. His mother worked as a cook and landscape gardener, while his father was an engineer originally from Zimbabwe. Kebbell developed his acting skills at the Central Junior Television Workshop in Nottingham, training alongside fellow actors Andrew Shim and Vicky McClure.

Kebbell made his feature film debut in 2004 portraying Anthony, a young man with a learning difficulty, in the Shane Meadows drama Dead Man's Shoes. His performance earned him a nomination for Most Promising Newcomer at the British Independent Film Awards. That same year, he landed roles in Oliver Stone's Alexander and Woody Allen's Match Point.

In 2007, Kebbell achieved significant critical acclaim for playing Joy Division manager Rob Gretton in Anton Corbijn's biopic Control, winning the British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actor and earning a nomination from the London Film Critics Circle Awards. During this period, he also appeared in an episode of the BBC series The Street, participated in a modern television adaptation of Macbeth, and took part in stage productions, including David Hare's adaptation of Maxim Gorky's Enemies at the Almeida Theatre and R.C. Sherriff's Journey's End at the Playhouse.

In 2008, Kebbell starred as Johnny Quid, a heroin-addicted musician, in Guy Ritchie's film RocknRolla, leading to nominations for the BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award and the Empire Award for Best Newcomer. He subsequently appeared in Stephen Frears's Cheri and the adventure film Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. In 2011, Kebbell played the leading role in the Black Mirror episode "The Entire History of You."

In subsequent years, Kebbell took on high-profile film roles, including Koba in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Doctor Doom in Fantastic Four, and Durotan in Warcraft. His additional movie credits include War Horse, Wrath of the Titans, A Monster Calls, Ben-Hur, Gold, Bloodshot, and Kong: Skull Island, where he played Jack Chapman and provided motion capture guidance for the title character. His recent work includes starring in the series Servant from 2019 to 2023 and joining the cast of For All Mankind in 2023.
