Jessica Brown Findlay

Jessica Rose Brown-Findlay, born 14 September 1987, is an English actress known professionally as Jessica Brown Findlay. She is widely recognized for her work in television and film, including her breakout role as Lady Sybil Crawley in the period drama series Downton Abbey and her leading performance as Emelia Conan Doyle in the 2011 comedy-drama feature film Albatross.

Brown Findlay grew up in Cookham, Berkshire, raised by her mother, a teaching assistant, and her father, a financial adviser. She attended Furze Platt Senior School in Maidenhead and trained extensively as a dancer with the National Youth Ballet and the Associates of the Royal Ballet. At age 15, she danced with the Mariinsky Ballet for a summer season at the Royal Opera House. She subsequently attended the Arts Educational School in London to pursue ballet, but three ankle operations forced her to end her dancing career. She completed her secondary education at Arts Educational School, Tring Park, and later studied fine art at Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design, where she developed an interest in acting.

Her acting career commenced with her lead casting in Albatross, directed by Niall MacCormick. She followed this with an appearance in the first-season finale of the British science fiction series Misfits. Shortly after filming Albatross, Brown Findlay was cast in Downton Abbey, starring as Lady Sybil from 2010 to 2012 across three series before leaving the production when her character was written out.

Following Downton Abbey, she starred as Abi in the Black Mirror episode "Fifteen Million Merits" alongside Daniel Kaluuya. In 2012, she served as the face of the Dominic Jones jewellery line and was cast in the television miniseries Labyrinth as Alaïs Pelletier, as well as the feature films Not Another Happy Ending and Winter's Tale, the latter released in 2014. Her subsequent projects included the 2015 BBC miniseries The Outcast and the film Victor Frankenstein, in which she portrayed Lorelei.

Brown Findlay made her professional stage debut in 2015 as Electra in Oresteia at London's Almeida Theatre, later transferring to the West End. She returned to the stage in Uncle Vanya and played Ophelia in a 2016 production of Hamlet alongside Andrew Scott, which ran through September 2017 in the West End.

Her concurrent screen credits included the Morrissey biopic England Is Mine, the romantic drama This Beautiful Fantastic, and the voice role of Fay in the animated movie Monster Family. From 2017 to 2019, she portrayed Charlotte Wells in three series of the period drama Harlots. She went on to play Elizabeth McKenna in the 2018 film The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and Lenina Crowne in the 2020 series Brave New World.

In 2021, Brown Findlay appeared as Pamela Legat in the Netflix feature Munich – The Edge of War. She later played Charlotte Keene, an F-35 pilot, in the Apple TV series Silo. In her personal life, she began dating actor Ziggy Heath in late 2016, whom she married on 12 September 2020. The couple gave birth to twin sons on 5 November 2022.
