Matt Bomer

Matthew Staton Bomer is an American actor born October 11, 1977, in Webster Groves, Missouri. He is known for his extensive work across television, film, and theater. Over the course of his career, he has earned several accolades, including a Golden Globe Award, a Critics' Choice Television Award, and a Peabody Award, along with nominations for multiple Primetime Emmy Awards.

Bomer was raised in Spring, Texas, by his parents, Elizabeth Macy and John O'Neill Bomer IV. He attended Klein High School, where he played wide receiver and defensive back on the football team before choosing to concentrate on acting. At age 17, he made his stage debut in a production of A Streetcar Named Desire at the Alley Theatre in Houston. He pursued higher education at Carnegie Mellon University, graduating in 2000 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drama.

After moving to New York City, Bomer made his television debut in 2000 on the soap opera All My Children. He subsequently secured a contract role on Guiding Light and appeared in primetime television series such as Tru Calling and Chuck. Bomer made his feature film debut in the 2005 mystery thriller Flightplan, followed by a role in the horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. In 2009, he achieved a major career breakthrough when he was cast as con artist Neal Caffrey in the USA Network drama series White Collar, a role he played until 2014 while also working as a producer on the show.

Throughout the 2010s, Bomer expanded his film career with supporting roles in the science fiction film In Time and the comedy-dramas Magic Mike and its sequel, Magic Mike XXL. In 2014, he earned widespread praise, a Golden Globe Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for portraying a closeted writer in the television movie The Normal Heart. His screen work during this period also included guest and main roles across seasons of the anthology series American Horror Story, as well as voice work as Superman in the direct-to-video animated film Superman: Unbound.

Bomer has also maintained an active theater career, starring in productions of Dustin Lance Black's play 8 and the 2018 Broadway revival of The Boys in the Band, later reprising his stage role for the 2020 film adaptation. His additional screen credits include roles in the feature films The Nice Guys, The Magnificent Seven, and Walking Out, as well as lead roles in television series such as The Last Tycoon and Doom Patrol. In 2023, Bomer starred in and executive produced the miniseries Fellow Travelers, playing a closeted World War II veteran, which earned him further Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe nominations alongside a Peabody Award.
