Liv Tyler

Liv Rundgren Tyler is an American actress and former model who gained international recognition for her screen roles across film and television. Born in New York City on July 1, 1977, she is the daughter of model and singer Bebe Buell and Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler. She was raised with rock musician Todd Rundgren acting as a father figure, maintaining a close relationship with him throughout her life. Tyler attended several schools across Virginia, Maine, California, and New York City, graduating from York Preparatory in 1995.

Tyler began modeling at age 14 after being photographed for Interview magazine and appearing in television commercials. She transitioned to acting shortly after, gaining early public notice starring alongside Alicia Silverstone in the 1993 music video for Aerosmith's song "Crazy". She made her feature film debut in Silent Fall (1994), followed by supporting and leading roles in Heavy (1995) and Empire Records (1995). Her breakthrough came with her starring role as Lucy Harmon in Bernardo Bertolucci's arthouse film Stealing Beauty (1996). That same year, she starred in Tom Hanks's comedy That Thing You Do!, followed by Inventing the Abbotts in 1997.

In 1998, Tyler achieved major commercial success co-starring in the blockbuster science-fiction disaster film Armageddon. Her career continued with roles in the period adaptation Onegin (1999), the historical comedy Plunkett & Macleane (1999), and two films directed by Robert Altman, Cookie's Fortune (1999) and Dr. T & the Women (2000). In 2001, she starred in the comedy One Night at McCool's.

Tyler reached global visibility playing the Elf maiden Arwen Undómiel in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings film trilogy: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002), and The Return of the King (2003). To portray the character, she learned the Elvish language created by J. R. R. Tolkien. Following the trilogy, Tyler appeared in the romantic comedy Jersey Girl (2004), the independent drama Lonesome Jim (2005), the drama Reign Over Me (2007), and the horror film The Strangers (2008).

She joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Betty Ross in The Incredible Hulk (2008), a role she reprised for Captain America: Brave New World (2025). Her subsequent film projects include Robot & Frank (2012), Space Station 76 (2014), Wildling (2018), and Ad Astra (2019). On television, Tyler has starred in the HBO drama series The Leftovers (2014–2017), the BBC period drama Gunpowder (2017), Harlots (2018–2019), and the Fox series 9-1-1: Lone Star (2020).

Beyond her acting career, Tyler has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for the United States since 2003. She also worked as a spokesperson for Givenchy's line of perfume and cosmetics, leading the brand to name a rose after her in 2005. Additionally, she has engaged in musical projects, performing with composer Howard Shore and recording covers of songs including "Need You Tonight" and "Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye".
