Kate Hudson

Kate Garry Hudson (born April 19, 1979) is an American actress and singer-songwriter. Born in Los Angeles, she is the daughter of actress Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, a musician, actor, and comedian. Following her parents' divorce, she was raised in Snowmass, Colorado, and Pacific Palisades, California, by her mother and her mother's longtime partner, actor Kurt Russell. She graduated from the Crossroads preparatory school in Santa Monica in 1997 and chose to pursue acting rather than attending New York University.

Hudson made her feature film debut in the 1998 comedy-drama Desert Blue, followed by supporting roles in 200 Cigarettes, Gossip, Dr. T & the Women, and About Adam. Her breakthrough arrived with her performance as Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe's musical drama Almost Famous (2000). For her work in the film, she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Throughout the 2000s, Hudson established a prominent presence in romantic comedies, starring in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), Alex & Emma (2003), Raising Helen (2004), You, Me and Dupree (2006), Fool's Gold (2008), My Best Friend's Girl (2008), and Bride Wars (2009). Outside the genre, she starred in the supernatural thriller The Skeleton Key (2005), directed the short film Cutlass (2007), and joined the ensemble cast of the musical film Nine (2009).

In the 2010s, Hudson appeared in films including The Killer Inside Me (2010), A Little Bit of Heaven (2011), Something Borrowed (2011), The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2013), Wish I Was Here (2014), Good People (2014), and Rock the Kasbah (2015). She voiced a character in the animated feature Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) and starred in Mother's Day (2016), Deepwater Horizon (2016), and Marshall (2017). On television, she held a recurring role as Cassandra July on the musical comedy series Glee from 2012 to 2013.

Hudson's later work includes roles in the musical drama Music (2021), which earned her a second Golden Globe nomination, and the fantasy thriller Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon (2021). She starred in A Little White Lie (2022), played Birdie Jay in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022), and took on television roles in Truth Be Told (2022) and Running Point (2025–present). Her portrayal of Claire Sardina in the 2025 film Song Sung Blue earned her nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actress, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA Award, and an Actor Award.

In addition to acting, Hudson co-founded the activewear brand Fabletics with TechStyle Fashion Group in 2013. She authored the non-fiction lifestyle books Pretty Happy (2016) and Pretty Fun (2017). In 2024, she signed with Virgin Music Group, released singles including "Talk About Love", "Live Forever", and "Gonna Find Out", and released her debut studio album, Glorious.
