Romain Duris

Romain Duris is a French actor who has become a prominent figure in French cinema. He is widely recognized for his versatile screen performances, ranging from romantic leads to action figures, and has achieved both national acclaim and international visibility.

Born in Paris on May 28, 1974, Duris grew up in a family with artistic and historic ties. His father worked as an engineer-architect, while his mother was a dancer. His ancestral lineage connects him to the Swedish 18th-century painter Alexander Roslin as well as Armand-Gaston Camus, the founder of the Archives nationales. His sister, Caroline, is a pianist who later contributed to the soundtrack of one of his major films.

Duris initially pursued arts studies at the university level before shifting his focus toward a music career. He played drums in an acid-jazz ensemble and formed a jazz-funk group. Prior to taking up acting, he appeared in the 1995 music video for the song "Faut qu'j'travaille" by Princess Erika, in which he portrayed a minor criminal.

His acting career began unexpectedly in 1993 after a casting director spotted him standing in a queue. This meeting led to his debut role in the Cédric Klapisch film Le péril jeune, released in 1994. Duris subsequently established an ongoing professional relationship with Klapisch, most notably starring as the exchange student Xavier Rousseau in the Spanish Apartment Trilogy, which includes L'Auberge Espagnole, The Russian Dolls, and Chinese Puzzle.

In 2005, Duris gained significant international acclaim for his starring role in Jacques Audiard's film The Beat That My Heart Skipped. His work in the project earned him the Lumière Award for Best Actor alongside a nomination for the César Award for Best Actor. Over the years, his filmography expanded to include varied projects such as Dobermann, Arsène Lupin, Dans Paris, Paris, Heartbreaker, The Big Picture, Populaire, Mood Indigo, and The New Girlfriend.

In recent years, Duris has continued to star in high-profile international and French productions. His later work includes All the Money in the World, The Animal Kingdom, and the two-part adaptation The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan and The Three Musketeers: Milady. Off-screen, he resides in the La Bastille area of Paris with his partner, actress Olivia Bonamy, with whom he has two sons.
