Vanessa Chantal Paradis, born on 22 December 1972, is a French singer, model, and actress. She achieved international acclaim at age 14 with the success of her 1987 single "Joe le taxi." Over her career, Paradis has established herself as a prominent figure in French popular culture, earning major honors across music, film, and theatre, including France's César Award, Victoires de la Musique, and a Genie Award.

Paradis was raised in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, a suburb of Paris, by her parents, interior designers André and Corinne Paradis. As a child, she took dance lessons, learned basic piano, and attended child model casting sessions. She made an appearance on the child talent show L'École des fans at age eight. In 1983, she recorded her first single, "La Magie des surprises-parties." Following the success of "Joe le taxi" from her debut album M&J, she left high school at age 16 in March 1989 to focus entirely on her music career.

Her musical trajectory expanded through high-profile collaborations. In 1990, she released the album Variations sur le même t'aime, written by Serge Gainsbourg. She later moved to the United States and released her self-titled English-language album in 1992, written and produced by Lenny Kravitz, which spawned the hit single "Be My Baby." Paradis continued releasing recorded works, including Divinidylle in 2007, the live acoustic album Une nuit à Versailles in 2010, and the double LP Love Songs in 2013, produced by Benjamin Biolay. Her music has been cited as a source of inspiration by numerous lyricists and musicians.

In film, Paradis gained early recognition in Jean-Claude Brisseau's Noce Blanche, winning the César Award for Most Promising Actress and the Prix Romy Schneider. She went on to star in notable feature films such as Élisa, Witch Way Love, Une chance sur deux, Girl on the Bridge, Heartbreaker, and Café de Flore, for which she won a Genie Award for Best Actress. In 2016, she served as a member of the main competition jury at the Cannes Film Festival. She made her stage debut in 2021 in the play Maman, earning a nomination for the Molière Award for Best Actress.

Alongside her music and acting, Paradis has worked extensively in modeling, appearing on more than 300 magazine covers worldwide, including Vogue, Elle, and Harper's Bazaar. Since 1991, she has served as a spokesmodel for Chanel, beginning with the "L'Esprit de Chanel" birdcage advertisement directed by Jean-Paul Goude. She has represented several Chanel fragrance, handbag, and cosmetic lines, and modeled for Miu Miu in 2008.

Paradis has received official honors from France, being made Officier in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2011 and Chevalier in the Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur in 2015. She has also contributed to charitable endeavors, serving as a member of the Les Enfoirés charity ensemble since 1993.
