Jason Schwartzman

Jason Schwartzman is an American actor and musician born on June 26, 1980. He is widely known for his frequent collaborations with director Wes Anderson, making his film debut at age 18 in Anderson's 1998 film Rushmore. He has since appeared in six additional Anderson films, including The Darjeeling Limited, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The French Dispatch, and Asteroid City. Schwartzman is also prominent for portraying Gideon Graves in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, as well as voicing the Spot in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Born in Los Angeles, California, Schwartzman is the son of actress Talia Shire and film producer Jack Schwartzman. A member of the Coppola family, his ancestry is half Italian and half Polish Jewish. His younger brother, Robert Schwartzman, is also an actor and musician. Through his extended family, Schwartzman is related to several figures in the entertainment industry, including his uncles Francis Ford Coppola and August Coppola, his cousins Nicolas Cage, Sofia Coppola, Roman Coppola, Gia Coppola, and Christopher Coppola, and his grandfather Carmine Coppola. He attended the Windward School in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Prior to entering professional acting, Schwartzman co-founded the rock band Phantom Planet in 1994, serving as its drummer and a songwriter. He left the group in May 2003 to focus on acting. In 2007, he created an indie rock solo project under the name Coconut Records, releasing the albums Nighttiming in 2007 and Davy in 2009. His musical work includes composing the theme song for the series Bored to Death, co-contributing to the film score for Funny People, and writing tracks for television programs such as Smallville and films like Slackers.

Throughout his acting career, Schwartzman has performed in a wide variety of feature films. Following his breakthrough in Rushmore, he starred in projects such as CQ, Slackers, Spun, I Heart Huckabees, and Shopgirl. In 2006, he portrayed King Louis XVI in Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. His subsequent feature credits include Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Funny People, Saving Mr. Banks, Big Eyes, Klaus, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, and Queer. Additionally, he holds a co-writing credit on Wes Anderson's 2007 film The Darjeeling Limited.

Schwartzman has also built a presence on television. He starred as a writer who becomes a private detective in the HBO series Bored to Death from 2009 to 2011, played Italian crime boss Josto Fadda in the fourth season of Fargo, and served as both an actor and executive producer on Mozart in the Jungle. In his personal life, Schwartzman married art and design director Brady Cunningham in July 2009, and the couple has three children. In 2009, GQ magazine named him one of the Top 10 Most Stylish Men in America.
