Steve Buscemi

Steven Vincent Buscemi is an American actor, director, and producer born on December 13, 1957. Renowned for his work across independent cinema, major Hollywood studio films, and television, his multi-decade career has earned him numerous accolades, including two Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and two Independent Spirit Awards.

Buscemi was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Dorothy and John Buscemi, a Korean War veteran and sanitation worker. Raised Catholic alongside three brothers, his family relocated to Valley Stream, Long Island, where he participated in varsity wrestling and drama before graduating high school in 1975. After taking the New York City firefighter's examination in 1977, he spent four years serving with Engine Company 55, later returning temporarily to assist at the World Trade Center site following the September 11 attacks.

Before transitioning to film, Buscemi performed live theater and comedy routines in New York's no wave venues. He made his feature film debut in 1985's The Way It Is and gained early recognition with roles in independent productions such as Parting Glances and Jim Jarmusch's Mystery Train, which earned him his first Independent Spirit Award nomination. During the late 1980s, he also appeared in Slaves of New York, Bloodhounds of Broadway, and Martin Scorsese's contribution to New York Stories.

In the 1990s, Buscemi achieved wider acclaim through prominent cinematic roles. He began a long-standing creative relationship with the Coen brothers, appearing in Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, Fargo, and The Big Lebowski. In 1992, he earned an Independent Spirit Award for portraying Mr. Pink in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs. Throughout the decade, he balanced independent satires like Living in Oblivion, studio action blockbusters such as Con Air and Armageddon, and comedic projects with Adam Sandler starting with Airheads.

During the 2000s, Buscemi maintained a strong screen presence with roles in Ghost World and Big Fish, while expanding into voice acting for major animated franchises including Monsters, Inc. and Hotel Transylvania. On television, he joined the cast of The Sopranos as Tony Blundetto, receiving an Emmy nomination while also directing several acclaimed episodes. His work as a feature filmmaker includes directing Trees Lounge, Animal Factory, and Interview.

From 2010 to 2014, Buscemi starred as corrupt Atlantic City politician Enoch "Nucky" Thompson in the HBO drama Boardwalk Empire, winning a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. He hosted, directed, and produced the web series talk show Park Bench with Steve Buscemi, which earned a Primetime Emmy Award in 2016. His later television credits include recurring and guest roles in 30 Rock, Horace and Pete, and Miracle Workers, alongside feature film performances in Lean on Pete and The Death of Stalin.
