Christopher Lloyd

Christopher Allen Lloyd is an American actor whose screen and stage career spans several decades. He is widely recognized for his portrayal of the eccentric time-traveling inventor Emmett "Doc" Brown in the Back to the Future film trilogy and for playing the former hippie cab driver "Reverend" Jim Ignatowski on the television comedy series Taxi.

Lloyd was born on October 22, 1938, in Stamford, Connecticut, to Samuel R. Lloyd Jr., a lawyer, and Ruth Lapham Lloyd, a singer. The youngest of six children, he was raised in Westport, Connecticut, where he attended Staples High School and helped establish its student theater group, the Staples Players. His family background includes notable ancestors such as Mayflower passenger John Howland and Texaco co-founder Lewis Henry Lapham.

He began his acting path through summer theater apprenticeships in New York and Massachusetts before moving to New York City at age nineteen to study under Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. Lloyd made his New York stage debut in 1961 and reached Broadway in 1969 with Red, White and Maddox. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, he performed extensively in regional and Off-Broadway stage productions, winning Drama Desk and Obie awards. He made his feature film debut in 1975 as psychiatric patient Max Taber in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

His role on Taxi from 1978 to 1983 brought him widespread television success and two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. During the 1980s and 1990s, Lloyd starred in numerous high-profile feature films. His notable screen roles include the Klingon Commander Kruge in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Professor Plum in Clue, the villainous Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Switchblade Sam in Dennis the Menace, and Uncle Fester in both The Addams Family and Addams Family Values.

In addition to live-action performances, Lloyd developed a prominent voice-acting career. He voiced characters in animated films such as DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp and Anastasia, the miniseries Over the Garden Wall, and the children's series Cyberchase, which earned him Daytime Emmy Award nominations. He also won an Independent Spirit Award for his performance in the film Twenty Bucks and earned a third Primetime Emmy Award for a guest appearance on the drama series Road to Avonlea.

Lloyd has remained active in film, television, and theater into his later career. His contemporary screen appearances include roles in feature films such as I Am Not a Serial Killer, Nobody, its sequel Nobody 2, and Spirit Halloween: The Movie. He has also made guest appearances on television programs including Fringe, Roseanne, Psych, The Mandalorian, and Knuckles.
