Anjelica Huston

Anjelica Huston is an American actress known for portraying eccentric and distinctive characters across film and television. Born on July 8, 1951, she has earned numerous accolades throughout her career, including an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. She has also received nominations for three British Academy Film Awards and six Primetime Emmy Awards, and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010.

Huston was born in Los Angeles to director and actor John Huston and prima ballerina and model Enrica Soma. She is the granddaughter of actor Walter Huston and has a complex family background that includes an older brother, Tony, an adopted older brother, Pablo, a younger maternal half-sister, Allegra, and a younger paternal half-brother, actor Danny Huston. When she was two years old, her family relocated to Ireland, where she spent much of her childhood living in County Kildare and later at the St. Clerans estate in County Galway. She attended Kylemore Abbey in Ireland and Holland Park School in England.

Huston made her screen debut as Claudia in her father's film A Walk with Love and Death (1969). Following her mother's death in a car accident, she moved to New York City and worked as a model throughout the 1970s. Signed to Ford Models, she appeared in Vogue and walked the runway for designers including Zandra Rhodes, Yamamoto, Armani, Valentino, and Halston. After moving to California to pursue acting, she appeared in small roles in films such as The Last Tycoon (1976), The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981), Frances (1982), This Is Spinal Tap (1984), and The Ice Pirates (1984).

Huston achieved her breakthrough performance as Maerose in Prizzi's Honor (1985), directed by her father. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the role, making her the third generation of her family to win an Oscar. She subsequently starred in Captain EO (1986), Gardens of Stone (1987), and John Huston's final film, The Dead (1987), for which she won an Independent Spirit Award. In 1988, she appeared in the films Mr. North and A Handful of Dust.

During the late 1980s and 1990s, Huston gained further recognition with roles in Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989), Enemies, A Love Story (1989), The Witches (1990), and The Grifters (1990), earning Academy Award nominations for Enemies, A Love Story and The Grifters. She portrayed Morticia Addams in the Addams Family films from 1991 to 1993, appeared in Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993), The Crossing Guard (1995), and Ever After (1998), and directed the feature films Bastard Out of Carolina (1996) and Agnes Browne (1999).

Huston collaborated with director Wes Anderson on The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004), and The Darjeeling Limited (2007), and lent her voice to the Tinker Bell series. Her later film credits include Daddy Day Care (2003), Choke (2008), 50/50 (2011), and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019). On television, she acted in Lonesome Dove, Family Pictures (1993), Buffalo Girls (1995), The Mists of Avalon (2001), Huff (2006), Medium (2008–2009), Transparent (2015–2016), and Towards Zero (2025). She won a Golden Globe for Iron Jawed Angels (2004) and a Gracie Award for Smash (2012–2013), and published memoirs in 2013 and 2014.
