Neve Campbell

Neve Adrianne Campbell, born October 3, 1973, in Guelph, Ontario, is a Canadian actress known for her work across television, feature films, and independent productions. Born to a Dutch mother who worked as a psychologist and yoga instructor and a Scottish father who taught high school drama, she was raised in a family with strong theatrical roots, as both sets of her grandparents were performers. Campbell originally pursued dance, enrolling at the Erinvale School of Dance and later residing at the National Ballet School of Canada, where she performed in productions of The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. After accumulating dance injuries, she retired from ballet at age 15 and transitioned to acting, appearing in a Toronto stage production of The Phantom of the Opera.

Campbell began her screen career appearing in commercials and Canadian television programs, including guest roles on shows such as Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. She secured her first starring role playing Daisy on the Canadian drama series Catwalk from 1992 to 1993. Seeking opportunities in Hollywood, she moved to the United States after earning the breakthrough role of orphaned teenager Julia Salinger on the Fox drama series Party of Five. She starred on the series from 1994 to 2000, departing after six seasons to concentrate on film work.

Her film career gained momentum in 1996 with her appearance in the supernatural horror movie The Craft. Later that year, director Wes Craven cast her as lead character Sidney Prescott in the slasher film Scream. The film achieved notable critical and commercial success, establishing Campbell as a prominent scream queen and earning her a Saturn Award for Best Actress. She subsequently reprised her role as Sidney Prescott in Scream 2 in 1997, Scream 3 in 2000, Scream 4 in 2011, and a fifth installment in 2022.

In addition to the Scream franchise, Campbell appeared in diverse screen projects, including the 1998 thriller Wild Things and the 2000 drama Panic. In 2002, she won a Prism Award for her performance in the television film Last Call. Expanding her creative roles, Campbell co-wrote, produced, and starred in the 2003 film The Company, directed by Robert Altman, which focused on the Joffrey Ballet. She followed this with the independent drama When Will I Be Loved in 2004. In 2006, Campbell made her West End stage debut in London, appearing in Arthur Miller's Resurrection Blues and the play Love Song.

Following a career hiatus due to dissatisfaction with offered film roles, Campbell returned to television, taking starring roles in the action series The Philanthropist in 2009 and the miniseries Titanic: Blood and Steel in 2012. She joined the cast of the Netflix political drama House of Cards as political consultant LeAnn Harvey from 2016 to 2017, and received the ACTRA National Award of Excellence in 2016. Her later work includes the action thriller Skyscraper in 2018, the biographical drama Clouds in 2020, and the Netflix crime drama series The Lincoln Lawyer, which premiered in 2022.
