Cindy Crawford

Cindy Crawford is an iconic American supermodel, television host, and businesswoman who achieved global prominence during the peak of the supermodel era in the late 1980s and 1990s. Instantly recognizable by her signature facial mole and statuesque athletic figure, Crawford emerged as one of the most visible fashion icons in history, appearing on hundreds of magazine covers worldwide and fronting major luxury brand campaigns.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Born on February 20, 1966, in DeKalb, Illinois, Crawford excelled academically throughout her youth, graduating as valedictorian of her high school class. She briefly attended Northwestern University on an academic scholarship to study chemical engineering before dropping out to pursue a full-time modeling career. After finishing as a finalist in Elite Model Management's Look of the Year contest, she moved to New York City, quickly securing editorial work and building momentum with elite fashion photographers and top industry magazines.

Supermodel Success and Media Work

Throughout the 1990s, Crawford was a central figure among the group of women recognized as the original supermodels. She graced runways for legendary fashion houses including Chanel, Versace, Ralph Lauren, and Calvin Klein. Beyond print modeling and haute couture, she expanded her career into television, serving as the executive producer and host of MTV's popular fashion magazine series House of Style from 1989 to 1995. Crawford also starred in a hugely successful series of home workout videos and headlined high-profile global advertisement campaigns, including her landmark Pepsi Super Bowl commercial.

Entrepreneurship and Personal Life

In her post-runway career, Crawford effectively leveraged her personal brand into long-term commercial enterprises. She co-founded the skincare line Meaningful Beauty and launched Cindy Crawford Home, a line of home furniture sold through major retail networks. Crawford actively engages in charity initiatives, particularly supporting pediatric cancer organizations in honor of her brother Jeffrey. Following a brief marriage to actor Richard Gere, she married businessman Rande Gerber in 1998. The couple has two children, Kaia and Presley Gerber, who have both established careers in fashion modeling.
