Gorham was born on August 14, 1974, in Fresno, California, to Cathryn, a school nurse, and David Gorham, a certified public accountant. He spent his early arts education at the Roosevelt School of the Arts before pursuing higher education at the University of California, Los Angeles. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater from UCLA in 1996. During his college years, Gorham engaged in various athletic disciplines, such as martial arts, stage combat, fencing, rollerblading, and ballroom dancing.

Gorham entered the entertainment industry working as an intern for the television series Baywatch. His early screen career included appearances on programs like Party of Five, Felicity, and Without a Trace. He subsequently landed main roles in several single-season series, including the science-fiction projects Odyssey 5 and Jake 2.0, the medical drama Medical Investigation, and the sitcom Out of Practice. In film, Gorham appeared opposite Anne Hathaway in the 2001 feature The Other Side of Heaven.

Gorham gained significant recognition playing Harrison John on the teen drama Popular. A major milestone arrived when he was cast as Henry Grubstick on ABC's comedy-drama Ugly Betty. Playing the primary romantic interest of the lead character, Gorham earned a nomination for a Screen Actors Guild Award alongside his castmates for outstanding ensemble performance. He also starred in the 2009 mystery miniseries Harper's Island, the television film Relative Chaos, and made an appearance on 2 Broke Girls.

From July 2010 through December 2014, Gorham starred as blind special ops agent Auggie Anderson on the USA Network drama Covert Affairs, which ran for five seasons. In 2014, he appeared as Walsh in the fantasy series Once Upon a Time. Gorham expanded his portfolio as a voice actor by portraying Barry Allen, also known as The Flash, in the DC Animated Movie Universe from Justice League: War in 2014 through Justice League Dark: Apokolips War in 2020.

In 2018, Gorham portrayed District Attorney Bob Barnard on the Netflix dark comedy Insatiable. He was later cast as accused client Trevor Elliott in the Netflix legal drama series The Lincoln Lawyer in March 2021. Off screen, Gorham is married to fellow actor Anel Lopez Gorham, with whom he has three children. Following his son Lucas's diagnosis with Asperger syndrome, Gorham became an active advocate for autism awareness.
