He attended and graduated from Lincoln Square Academy in New York. Fishburne began acting as a child under the name Larry Fishburne, landing early television roles on an ABC Theater teleplay and the soap opera One Life to Live. Additionally, he earned accolades for his Broadway performance in Thurgood, served as a UNICEF ambassador, narrated an audiobook of The Autobiography of Malcolm X, and joined projects such as The Witcher and The Amateur.

Fishburne has been married twice, first to Hajna O. Moss, with whom he has two children, and later to actress Gina Torres, with whom he shares one daughter; both marriages ended in divorce. He maintains residences in Hollywood and New York City.
