Ruby Rose

Ruby Rose Langenheim, born on 20 March 1986 in Melbourne, Australia, is an Australian actress, television presenter, and model. She gained international recognition for playing inmate Stella Carlin in season three of the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. She further raised her global profile by portraying Kate Kane, also known as Batwoman, in the Arrowverse television franchise.

Rose was raised by her single mother, Katia Langenheim. As a young child, she moved frequently across rural Victoria, Tasmania, and Surfers Paradise before returning to Melbourne, where she attended Footscray City College and University High School. Her lineage includes her great-grandmother, German actress Ellen Bang, and her great-grandfather, Alec Campbell, who was the final Australian survivor of the Battle of Gallipoli.

Her public career began in 2002 when she placed second in the Girlfriend model search competition. She subsequently appeared in fashion magazines such as Vogue Australia, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, and InStyle, and served as an Australian ambassador for brands including JAG, JVC, Georg Jensen, and Maybelline, later becoming the face of Urban Decay in 2016. In 2007, Rose won a national competition to become a video jockey for MTV Australia, earning the ASTRA Award for Favourite Female Personality in 2009. She went on to co-host shows including The 7pm Project and Ultimate School Musical, and served as an official Foxtel correspondent for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Rose transitioned into acting with early appearances in the Australian film Suite for Fleur and the 2013 feature Around the Block. In 2014, she self-produced and starred in the viral short film Break Free, which gained millions of views and helped establish her acting craft. This led to her breakthrough casting in Orange Is the New Black in 2015, followed by a guest appearance in the science fiction series Dark Matter.

Between 2016 and 2018, Rose established herself in film roles, appearing in major action sequels including Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, XXX: Return of Xander Cage, and John Wick: Chapter 2. She also co-starred in the 2017 musical comedy Pitch Perfect 3 and featured alongside Jason Statham in the 2018 shark epic The Meg.

In 2018, Rose was cast as Kate Kane in Batwoman, marking the first openly lesbian lead superhero on television. She starred in the show's first season before leaving the role in May 2020. Her departure was influenced by a production injury that required back surgery, a latex allergy caused by the character's suit mask, and later statements regarding working conditions on set.

Beyond acting, Rose has engaged in music, business, and advocacy. She released the single Guilty Pleasure in 2012, directed a music video for The Veronicas in 2016, and created fashion collaborations with Milk and Honey, Gallaz, and Faircloth Lane. A vocal supporter of animal welfare, youth mental health, and anti-bullying initiatives, she has served as an ambassador for Headspace and participated in campaigns for PETA. In November 2021, Rose took a sabbatical to return to Australia, and in July 2026, it was announced that she would join the reality series Special Forces: World's Toughest Test.
