Hana Mae Lee

Hana Mae Lee is an American actress, singer, model, comedian, and fashion designer. She is widely known for her role as Lilly Onakurama in the musical comedy Pitch Perfect film series and her portrayal of Sonya in the horror comedy film The Babysitter and its sequel.

Lee was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, California, and is of Korean descent. She attended Granada Hills Charter High School before enrolling in college at the age of 16. She earned a BFA in fashion design from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, California. Her early design work included projects for Juicy Couture and Mossimo, though she declined an offer to work for Ralph Lauren in New York to focus on her acting career.

Before launching her full-time entertainment career, Lee worked extensively in cosmetics and modeling. At 15, she began doing makeup professionally, starting with makeovers at Macy's and moving on to editorial photo shoots. By 2018, she decided to stop makeup work to focus entirely on entertainment. As a professional model starting at age 16, she appeared in campaigns for brands such as Honda, Jeep, Apple Inc., Nokia, Sebastian, American Express, HP, Cherry Coke, and Midori, and was featured in magazines including TIME, SOMA, Elle, and Teen Vogue.

In addition to modeling, Lee expanded into comedy and fashion design. She began performing stand-up comedy in 2009, often incorporating Korean folk music into her acts, and became part of the comedy duo Get Gaysian. In 2001, she launched her jewelry line, Hanamahn, and added an apparel line in 2009. Several pieces from her fashion line appeared in the Pitch Perfect films. By 2018, the brand was placed on hiatus while a sister line was being developed.

Lee made her television debut in 2011 with guest appearances on Mike & Molly and Workaholics. Her breakthrough role came when she was cast as Lilly Onakuramara/Esther in the 2012 musical comedy Pitch Perfect. She reprised this role in the sequels Pitch Perfect 2 in 2015 and Pitch Perfect 3 in 2017. She also co-starred as Sonya in McG's horror film The Babysitter in 2017 and returned for its 2020 sequel, The Babysitter: Killer Queen.

For her performance in Pitch Perfect, Lee received a nomination for the Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Scene Stealer in 2013.
