Kate Bosworth

Catherine Anne Bosworth is an American actress born on January 2, 1983. She is best known for her breakthrough starring role in the surfing movie Blue Crush (2002) and her portrayal of Lois Lane in the superhero film Superman Returns (2006). Over her career, she has appeared in a wide range of studio features, independent dramas, horror films, and television productions.

Bosworth was born in Los Angeles, California, and spent early childhood in San Francisco. She was raised mainly on the East Coast in Massachusetts and Connecticut due to her father's career. Born with heterochromia iridum, she has a hazel right iris and a blue left iris. Bosworth became a champion equestrian in stadium jumping by age 14 and graduated from Cohasset High School in Cohasset, Massachusetts, in 2001.

Her acting career began when she won a supporting part in the 1998 film The Horse Whisperer, which sought an experienced horse rider. She followed this with roles in the television drama Young Americans and the film Remember the Titans in 2000. After moving to Los Angeles in 2001, she achieved widespread recognition in Blue Crush (2002). To prepare for the role, she underwent several months of intensive training with physical instructors to build 15 pounds of muscle.

In the years following her breakthrough, Bosworth appeared in various film genres. She played Dawn Schiller in the true crime film Wonderland (2003) and portrayed actress Sandra Dee in the biographical drama Beyond the Sea (2004), earning critical acclaim for her performance. After starring in Bee Season (2005) and Superman Returns (2006), she appeared in projects such as The Girl in the Park (2007), the drama 21 (2008), and the action film The Warrior's Way (2010).

During the 2010s, Bosworth moved into more lower-budget and independent features, including Straw Dogs (2011), And While We Were Here (2012), and Still Alice (2014). She also starred in horror films such as Before I Wake (2016) and The Domestics (2018), and played the lead role of KC in the 2019 Netflix science-fiction miniseries The I-Land. Alongside acting, Bosworth engaged in fashion work, representing brands such as Calvin Klein Jeans, Coach, and SK-II, and co-designing the jewelry line JewelMint.

Bosworth has also been involved in activism and education. In 2018, she was named to People magazine's list of 25 Women Changing the World, helped debut the anti-human trafficking film Nona, and co-founded the Montana Institute of the Arts summer school for filmmaking students. She maintains a personal practice of Mahayana Buddhism and is a member of the Appalachia Service Project.
