Jeremy Allen White

Jeremy Allen White is an American actor best known for his television performances as Lip Gallagher on the series Shameless and chef Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto on The Bear. His work in comedy and drama has earned him major industry accolades, including multiple Primetime Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

White was born on February 17, 1991, in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. His parents were both former stage actors who met through the theater. Raised in Brooklyn's Carroll Gardens neighborhood alongside a younger sister, White studied ballet, jazz, and tap dance as a child. At age 13, he redirected his focus toward acting while starting a new dance program. He enrolled at the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan and worked at a casting agency during his free time. Although he missed numerous classes and did not graduate on schedule, he received his high school diploma at age 34.

White made his professional acting debut in 2006 with minor roles in the film Beautiful Ohio and the drama series Conviction. He followed with roles in independent films, including The Speed of Life (2007) and Afterschool (2008), as well as episodic appearances on Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. His major breakthrough came in 2011 when he was cast as Lip Gallagher in Shameless. He portrayed the character for 134 episodes across a ten-year run through 2021, earning a Critics' Choice Television Award nomination. During this period, he also appeared in feature films such as Bad Turn Worse, Rob the Mob, After Everything, and The Rental.

In 2022, White took on his first leading television role in Hulu's series The Bear. To prepare for his portrayal of a troubled chef returning to Chicago, he trained at the Institute of Culinary Education. The show ran for five seasons through 2026, with White starring in 43 episodes. His performance garnered extensive critical acclaim and earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, two Critics' Choice Television Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards. Additionally, in 2024, White signed as a global promotional ambassador for Calvin Klein underwear, starring in two major advertising campaigns.

White's film career expanded with prominent biographical and dramatic roles. He portrayed professional wrestler Kerry Von Erich in the 2023 sports drama The Iron Claw, undergoing wrestling training for the part. In 2025, he played musician Bruce Springsteen in the biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, learning guitar and taking vocal lessons; his performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination. His subsequent work included voicing Rotta the Hutt in the 2026 Star Wars film The Mandalorian and Grogu.

White's future screen projects include roles in Aaron Sorkin's feature film The Social Reckoning, the thriller Enemies, and the Polish-set drama The Painted Bride. In his personal life, White married actress Addison Timlin in October 2019, with whom he has two daughters. The couple separated in 2022 and filed for divorce in 2023. White later dated Spanish musical artist Rosalía until mid-2024.
