Rosalía

Rosalía Vila Tobella, known mononymously as Rosalía, is a Spanish singer-songwriter and actress born on 25 September 1992. Recognized for her genre-bending musical style, she combines traditional flamenco with modern pop, hip-hop, urbano, and reggaeton. She has accumulated thirteen number-one singles in Spain, the most for a local female artist, and is widely regarded as one of the most successful and influential Spanish singers of all time.

Rosalía was born in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Catalonia, and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires. After discovering the discography of Camarón de la Isla, she developed an interest in the performing arts and began her musical education at the Taller de Músics, where she completed a six-year course. She later attended the Superior School of Music of Catalonia, graduating in 2017. During her studies, she worked as an independent vocalist at weddings and musical bars, taught flamenco, and collaborated with several underground Spanish artists.

At age 15, Rosalía competed on the television show Tú Sí Que Vales. She later became the vocalist for the flamenco group Kejaleo, releasing the album Alaire in 2013, and participated in various live shows and festivals. In 2016, she collaborated with rapper C. Tangana on the single "Antes de morirme". Later that year, she signed with Universal Music and worked with producer Raül Refree on her debut studio album, Los Ángeles (2017). The album reworked classic flamenco songs around the theme of death and earned her a nomination for Best New Artist at the 18th Latin Grammy Awards.

Rosalía achieved broad international recognition with her second studio album, El mal querer (2018), which she developed as her baccalaureate project alongside producer el Guincho. Blending flamenco with pop and urban music, the conceptual record yielded the successful singles "Malamente", "Pienso en tu mirá", and her first Spanish number-one single, "Di mi nombre". El mal querer won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album, earned multiple Latin Grammy Awards, and was featured on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list.

Following her breakthrough, Rosalía released a series of global hit singles, including "Con altura" with J Balvin, "Yo x ti, tú x mí" with Ozuna, and "TKN" with Travis Scott. In 2019, she made an appearance in Pedro Almodóvar's film Pain and Glory. Her third studio album, Motomami (2022), presented an experimental approach to reggaeton and included the singles "La Fama", "Saoko", and "Despechá". Her fourth album, Lux (2025), fused art pop with classical music elements and broke multiple records for a Spanish-speaking female artist.

Throughout her career, Rosalía has received two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards, a BRIT Award, four MTV Video Music Awards, two MTV Europe Music Awards, and Billboard's Rising Star Award. She was the first Spanish-singing act nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards and the first Spanish female artist to perform at the Grammy Awards gala.
