Hunter Parrish

Hunter Parrish Tharp, born May 13, 1987, is an American actor and singer. He is widely recognized for playing Silas Botwin in the Showtime television series Weeds. Additionally, he is known for his Broadway stage performances, including his roles as Melchior Gabor in Spring Awakening and Jesus in Godspell.

Parrish was born in Richmond, Virginia, to Annie Parrish, who works with children with autism, and Bruce Tharp, an engineer. He grew up alongside an older brother. For his education, Parrish graduated from Plano Senior High School as well as the Texas Tech University Independent School District.

His professional career began after he was noticed at a showcase in New York directed by Peter Seidman, which led to representation. He subsequently made guest appearances on several television programs and appeared in the 2004 film Sleepover. Parrish achieved broader recognition beginning in 2005 when he was cast as Silas Botwin, the older son in the main ensemble of Weeds. He played the role throughout the show's eight-season run, which concluded in 2012.

In August 2008, following the fourth season of Weeds, Parrish made his Broadway debut at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre as Melchior Gabor in Spring Awakening, earning critical acclaim for his performance until the show closed in January 2009. He returned to Broadway in October 2011 to star as Jesus in a revival of Godspell, leaving the production in April 2012 to film the final season of Weeds. Alongside these projects, he appeared in films such as RV (2006), Freedom Writers (2007), 17 Again (2009), and It's Complicated (2009). His portrayal of Ben Samuels in Freedom Writers was praised by National Review Online for its unassuming humor.

From 2007 to 2009, Parrish hosted the web series Two Guys and a Girl with friends Kyle Sherman and Allison Tyler, and he took part in the 2008 short Cougar 101 with Hunter Parrish. Beginning in 2013, he took on recurring roles in television shows, playing Jeffrey Grant on The Good Wife in 2013 and 2014, as well as recurring roles in The Following and Hand of God in 2015. He secured a main role in the 2016 Amazon series Good Girls Revolt and played Clay Haas in the second season of Quantico in 2017.

Parrish was cast in a lead role for the Jane the Virgin spin-off pilot Jane The Novela in 2019, though the series was not picked up. He also appeared in the Ryan Murphy-produced Netflix drama series Ratched, which was filmed in 2019 and released in September 2020. In 2022, he joined the cast of the Hulu mystery thriller series The Other Black Girl, adapted from the novel by Zakiya Dalila Harris, which premiered in September 2023. In his personal life, Parrish is a Christian. He married Kathryn Wahl in 2015, and the couple has two children: a daughter born in September 2020 and a son born in November 2025.
