Pablo Schreiber

Pablo Tell Schreiber is a Canadian and American actor recognized for his work across television, film, and stage productions. He gained initial prominence for his television portrayals, including Nick Sobotka on the drama series The Wire, villainous guest character William Lewis on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and George "Pornstache" Mendez on Orange Is the New Black. His broad screen repertoire also features leading roles such as Mad Sweeney in American Gods and Master Chief in the action series Halo.

Born on April 26, 1978, in Ymir, British Columbia, Schreiber was raised primarily in Canada before relocating to Seattle with his father at age 12 following his parents' separation. His father was an American actor who named him after Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, while his mother worked as a Canadian body-based psychotherapist. Actor Liev Schreiber is his older paternal half-brother. After finishing high school, he attended the University of San Francisco with hopes of playing basketball, later transferring to Carnegie Mellon University, where he earned a degree in theatre in 2000.

Schreiber began his professional acting career shortly after graduation, debuting on screen in the film Bubble Boy in 2001 and landing his breakout television role on The Wire in 2003. Alongside screen work, he established a prominent stage career on and off Broadway. His performance in the 2006 Broadway production of Awake and Sing! earned him a Tony Award nomination, and his work in the 2008 play reasons to be pretty won him a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play. During this period, he also appeared in supporting film roles in projects such as The Manchurian Candidate, Lords of Dogtown, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and Nights in Rodanthe.

His television career expanded through recurring and main roles in programs like Lights Out, Weeds, A Gifted Man, and the pilot reboot of Ironside. His portrayal of George Mendez on Orange Is the New Black from 2013 to 2017 brought him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. Subsequently, he played Mad Sweeney in the fantasy series American Gods from 2017 to 2021.

In film, Schreiber co-starred in Michael Bay's war drama 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi in 2016. He later took on prominent roles in action feature films, including Den of Thieves and Skyscraper in 2018, as well as the biographical film First Man and the drama Lorelei. In 2022, he starred in the biographical miniseries Candy and assumed the lead role of Master Chief in the Paramount+ series Halo, based on the video game franchise.

In his personal life, Schreiber was married to yoga instructor Jessica Monty from 2007 until she filed for divorce in 2014; the couple shares two sons. He has also narrated the audiobook adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's novel American Psycho.
