Joshua Close

Joshua Close (born August 31, 1981) is a Canadian film and television actor known for a steady run of supporting roles in prestige drama and horror across more than two decades on screen.

Born in Oakville, Ontario, Close trained at the Circle in the Square Theatre School in New York City and began working professionally in 2002. He drew early notice in the horror films The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005) and George A. Romero’s Diary of the Dead (2007), and built a prolific television career with roles in The Unusuals (2009), the HBO war miniseries The Pacific (2010) and Thorne: Sleepyhead (2010), the latter earning him a 2011 Gemini Award for Best Supporting Actor.

He went on to recurring and guest roles in Fargo (2014), Person of Interest (2016) and The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair (2018), and appeared in the films Monica (2022) and Plan B (2023). More recently he featured in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) and the 2025 projects Wayward, Little Lorraine and A Breed Apart, confirming his standing as a dependable, widely cast character actor.

In 2026 Close joined the ensemble of Below, the Netflix limited series set in a remote Newfoundland town terrorised by a mysterious sea creature, where he plays Officer Jaxon Noseworthy opposite Josh Hartnett, Mackenzie Davis and Willow Kean. The high-profile release has brought fresh attention to one of Canada’s most reliable supporting players, whose understated, grounded performances have quietly anchored a long list of acclaimed film and television productions.

Trained for the stage before moving into screen work, Close has shifted easily between American prestige television and Canadian productions, and his 2026 role in Below continues a long association with genre and ensemble storytelling. The series’ wide release has introduced his understated style to a new international streaming audience.
