Wrenn Schmidt

Melinda Wrenn Schmidt is an American actress born on February 18, 1983. She is best known for her starring role as NASA engineer, flight director, and NASA director Margo Madison in the Apple TV+ science-fiction drama series For All Mankind. Her prominent screen credits span television series such as Boardwalk Empire, The Americans, Person of Interest, and Outcast, alongside feature films including 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi and Nope.

Schmidt was raised in Lexington, South Carolina, by a mother who worked as a dietitian and a father who served as a biology professor. She has a diverse European heritage that includes German, English, Scots-Irish, Polish, and Austrian ancestry. In 2001, she graduated from the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts & Humanities as part of its inaugural drama class. She then attended Southern Methodist University's Meadows School of the Arts, graduating summa cum laude in 2005 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatre studies and history. During her studies, she acted in a 2003 Dallas production of the play Heaven.

Following graduation, Schmidt moved to New York City to complete an off-Broadway internship while working three jobs and auditioning. She landed a role in the 2006 play Crazy for the Dog and worked as an understudy on a national tour of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. This touring opportunity helped her secure a talent agent, leading to her screen debut in 2006 with appearances on Law & Order and 3 lbs. Over the following years, she established an extensive stage career, performing in plays such as Sive, Come Back, Little Sheba, Caesar and Cleopatra, Jailbait, and Proof.

Schmidt made her film debut in the 2010 documentary Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer and her feature film debut in the 2011 comedy-drama Our Idiot Brother. She gained wider television recognition in 2012 when she was cast as Julia Sagorsky on the HBO series Boardwalk Empire. In 2014, she secured several recurring roles, playing KGB handler Kate on The Americans, Jenna Olson on Tyrant, and Dr. Iris Campbell on Person of Interest. She later joined the main cast of the Cinemax horror series Outcast, playing Megan Holter from 2016 to 2018.

In addition to her television work, Schmidt continued to perform in theatrical plays and feature films. She starred in the 2014 horror-thriller Preservation, portrayed Bobbie Jett in the 2015 Hank Williams biopic I Saw the Light, and appeared in the 2016 war film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. Her additional film roles include the 2017 romantic comedy The Good Catholic and the 2022 science-fiction horror film Nope.

Starting in 2019, Schmidt took on the central role of Margo Madison in For All Mankind. Her recent television work also includes a guest appearance as Britney in a 2023 episode of the crime anthology series Accused.
