Born on 4 September 2000, Stokes was raised in Hackney, East London. She grew up alongside two younger brothers, Clement and Seth, both of whom have also acted on television. She developed her performing skills at the Young Actors Theatre Islington and attended the BRIT School. Additionally, she trained with the London Youth Circus, a branch of the National Centre for Circus Arts.

Stokes started her career as a child performer, securing minor television appearances before making her feature film debut in 2016's Una, playing the younger counterpart of Rooney Mara's character. She subsequently appeared as Agnes in the 2019 film Rocks. In 2020, Stokes landed a recurring role as Francesca in the Netflix Regency drama Bridgerton, participating in its first two seasons before departing due to scheduling conflicts.

Her screen credits expanded across multiple genres in the early 2020s. She provided voice work for the animated movie Where Is Anne Frank and starred in the horror film A Banquet in 2021. In 2023, she headlined the Netflix series Lockwood & Co. as Lucy Carlyle and co-starred as Florence "Flo" Brooks opposite Samantha Morton in the Paramount+ series The Burning Girls. That same year, she appeared in the film Black Dog.

Stokes made her professional stage debut in 2023, appearing alongside Niamh Cusack in That Face at the Orange Tree Theatre. In 2024, she portrayed Hannah Manning in the BBC One crime series The Jetty, starring Jenna Coleman. Her screen projects also include roles as Ella in Sunny Dancer, a part created specifically for her by director George Jacques, and as Lily in the 19th-century drama Madfabulous.

In 2023, Stokes received industry recognition when she was selected as a Screen International Star of Tomorrow. Her stage career continued to progress with her Royal Shakespeare Company debut in 2026, playing Miranda in The Tempest alongside Kenneth Branagh.
