Luke Newton

Luke Paul Anthony Newton is an English actor best known for playing Colin Bridgerton in the Netflix period drama Bridgerton. His early screen roles include parts in the BBC Two series The Cut and the Disney Channel series The Lodge.

Newton was born on 5 February 1993 and raised in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, with his younger sister Lauren. His mother remarried in 2006. His father was a singer on Stars in Their Eyes, and two maternal aunts performed in the West End. He attended St Nicolas and St Mary's Primary School, Steyning Grammar School, and Northbrook College Sussex. During this period, he formed the boy band South 4 with Oli Reynolds, Joel Baylis, and Henry Tredinnick. After being scouted in Brighton during a production of Billy Elliot, he trained at the London School of Musical Theatre.

In 2010, Newton made his television debut as Luke Atwood in 11 episodes of the BBC Two teen series The Cut. He made his professional stage debut in 2013 as an Elder Price understudy in the West End production of The Book of Mormon. In 2014, he appeared in two episodes of the BBC soap opera Doctors as Sam Hern. From 2016 to 2017, Newton starred as Ben Evans in the Disney Channel series The Lodge, appearing on two soundtrack albums. He later starred as Billy in the 2018 Syfy television film Lake Placid: Legacy.

Newton began playing Colin, the third eldest Bridgerton son, in the Shondaland-produced Netflix series Bridgerton in 2020. After playing a supporting character in the first two series, it was announced in May 2022 that he and co-star Nicola Coughlan would lead the third series. He was featured in the Royally Sexy portfolio of People's Sexiest Man Alive issue in November 2024, made the IMDb list of Most Popular Stars of 2024, and was listed at number 93 on the Radio Times TV 100 list in May 2025.

In 2023, Newton returned to stage acting as Adam in a revival of The Shape of Things at the Park Theatre alongside Amber Anderson. The production was nominated for Best Off-West End Production at the 24th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards. Also in 2023, he voiced the character Thomas in the Portuguese animated film Viana: The Legend of the Golden Hearts. In August and September 2025, Newton portrayed fashion designer Alexander McQueen in the off-Broadway play House of McQueen, a role subsequently taken over by Liam Tamne.

In 2024, Newton was set to star opposite Lucy Hale in the sci-fi thriller White Mars. In his personal life, Newton has dyslexia and ADHD. Following the passing of his grandfather Ken during the COVID-19 pandemic, his family raised over £3,000 for the Love Your Hospital charity in his memory.
