Linda Hamilton

Linda Carroll Hamilton is an American actress widely recognized for playing resilient, formidable characters in television and film. She achieved global fame portraying Sarah Connor in the science fiction action feature The Terminator and subsequent installments of the franchise. Over the course of her career, she has earned numerous accolades, including two Saturn Awards, two MTV Movie Awards, a Satellite Award, and a Romy Award, alongside nominations for a Primetime Emmy and three Golden Globes.

Born on September 26, 1956, in Salisbury, Maryland, Hamilton grew up in a family that included an identical twin sister, an older sister, a younger brother, and a stepbrother. Her father passed away when she was five years old, and her mother later remarried a police officer. An avid reader during her youth, Hamilton attended Wicomico Junior High and Wicomico High School. She studied at Washington College for two years before moving to New York City to pursue acting, where she took workshops led by Lee Strasberg.

Hamilton launched her professional acting career in 1979 with a minor role in the drama film Night-Flowers. She gained wider exposure on television in the early 1980s, appearing on the soap opera Secrets of Midland Heights, the drama series King's Crossing, and the television movie Country Gold. Her first leading role in a feature film came in the 1982 thriller TAG: The Assassination Game, and she was subsequently listed as one of twelve promising new actors in John Willis's Screen World.

In 1984, Hamilton starred in the horror adaptation Children of the Corn before landing her career-defining role as Sarah Connor in James Cameron's action movie The Terminator. The film became a major box office hit, with critics praising her performance. Following this breakthrough, she appeared in the action film Black Moon Rising and the adventure project King Kong Lives. From 1987 to 1989, she starred as Catherine Chandler on the television series Beauty and the Beast, earning major award nominations before leaving during its third season.

Hamilton featured in the fantasy comedy Mr. Destiny in 1990 before reprising her iconic role in Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 1991. The blockbuster grossed over $500 million worldwide, and her physically demanding performance won critical praise as well as several awards. Throughout the remainder of the decade, she starred in the television movie A Mother's Prayer, earning a CableACE Award and Golden Globe nomination, and headlined major releases including the political thriller Shadow Conspiracy and the disaster film Dante's Peak.

During the late 1990s and 2000s, Hamilton expanded into voice acting for animated series and starred in diverse projects, including the television movie Sex & Mrs. X and the mystery film Skeletons in the Closet. She also earned praise for her stage performances, playing the lead in a 2000 adaptation of Laura and appearing in Tennessee Williams's play The Night of the Iguana in 2006. On television, she secured recurring roles in series such as Chuck, Weeds, Lost Girl, and Defiance.

In later years, Hamilton returned to her most famous film series, providing a voice cameo in Terminator Salvation in 2009 and starring in Terminator: Dark Fate in 2019. Beyond her film work, she has continued to appear in prominent television roles, including her casting as Dr. Kay in the fifth and final season of Stranger Things.
