Jordana Brewster

Jordana Brewster is an American actress who achieved widespread recognition for her role as Mia Toretto in the Fast & Furious action film franchise. She began her professional acting career in television soap operas during the mid-1990s before transitioning into feature films and major network television series. Over the course of her career, she has performed in horror movies, action comedies, and television dramas.

Born on April 26, 1980, in Panama City, Panama, Brewster is the elder of two daughters. Her mother was a Brazilian swimsuit model who featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated, while her father worked as an American investment banker. Her paternal grandfather served as president of Yale University and as the United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom. During her childhood, she lived in London and Brazil before her family settled in Manhattan, New York City. She attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart and graduated from the Professional Children's School, later earning a bachelor's degree in English Literature from Yale University in 2003.

Brewster made her acting debut in 1995 on the soap opera All My Children, followed by a long-running recurring role as Nikki Munson on As the World Turns. Her performance on the latter earned her a nomination for Outstanding Teen Performer at the 1997 Soap Opera Digest Awards. She made her feature film debut in Robert Rodriguez's 1998 science-fiction horror movie The Faculty, playing a high school cheerleading captain and newspaper editor. She subsequently appeared in the 1999 television miniseries The '60s and the 2001 independent drama The Invisible Circus.

Her major breakthrough occurred in 2001 when she starred opposite Vin Diesel and Paul Walker as Mia Toretto in the hit street-racing film The Fast and the Furious. After completing her university degree at Yale, she returned to film acting with featured roles in the action comedy D.E.B.S. in 2004, the drama Nearing Grace in 2005, and the military drama Annapolis in 2006. That same year, she starred in the horror movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, earning two Teen Choice Award nominations for her performance.

Throughout the following decade, Brewster repeatedly reprised her signature role as Mia Toretto in several Fast & Furious sequels, including Fast & Furious in 2009, Fast Five in 2011, Fast & Furious 6 in 2013, Furious 7 in 2015, and F9 in 2021. Alongside her film work, she maintained a prominent presence on television. She had recurring arcs on Chuck and Dark Blue before starring as Elena Ramos in the updated television drama Dallas from 2012 to 2014.

Brewster continued expanding her television credits by portraying Denise Brown in the first season of American Crime Story in 2016, appearing in the second season of Secrets and Lies, and co-starring as LAPD psychologist Dr. Maureen Cahill on the action dramedy Lethal Weapon from 2016 to 2018. Her additional film credits include American Heist in 2014 and Home Sweet Hell in 2015. Outside of acting, she has participated in public awareness projects for the Human Rights Campaign and voter support initiatives with VoteRiders.
