Donnie Wahlberg

Donald Edmond Wahlberg Jr. is an American singer, actor, and producer born on August 17, 1969. He is best known as a founding member of the boy band New Kids on the Block and for his long-running television work, including his portrayal of Detective Danny Reagan on the drama series Blue Bloods and its follow-up Boston Blue.

Wahlberg was raised in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. He is the eighth of nine children born to Alma Elaine, a bank clerk and nurse's aide, and Donald Edmond Wahlberg, a teamster and delivery driver. His background includes Swedish, Irish, English, and French-Canadian ancestry, and he grew up in an Irish-Catholic family. Prior to launching his entertainment career, his first job was working in the foreign-exchange office of a bank.

In the mid-1980s, Wahlberg became the initial member selected for New Kids on the Block, a group assembled by Maurice Starr and Mary Alford. Performing alongside Jonathan and Jordan Knight, Danny Wood, and Joey McIntyre, he served as a central member during the group's initial run until their breakup in 1994. The band officially reunited in 2008, releasing the chart-topping gold album The Block and launching a major concert tour. Wahlberg has remained a continuous member of the group through ongoing tours.

Wahlberg made his feature film debut in 1996 with Bullet, Ransom, and Southie, followed by a visible role in the 1999 film The Sixth Sense. In 2001, he co-starred as Second Lieutenant C. Carwood Lipton in the World War II miniseries Band of Brothers, which led to a lead role in the drama series Boomtown from 2002 to 2003. He played Detective Eric Matthews in the Saw horror film franchise and appeared in feature films such as Dreamcatcher (2003), Annapolis (2006), Righteous Kill (2008), and Zookeeper (2011).

Beginning in 2010, Wahlberg starred as 1st Grade Detective Danny Reagan on the CBS police drama Blue Bloods, an episode of which he also directed. After Blue Bloods concluded, he reprised his role as the character in the police drama Boston Blue. His television work extends to non-scripted projects, including hosting the documentary series Very Scary People starting in 2019 and appearing on season five of The Masked Singer in 2021.

As a producer, Wahlberg executive produced the reality series Boston's Finest (2013) and later created Work Baby Productions with his wife, Jenny McCarthy. He produced and starred in several unscripted series, notably A&E's Wahlburgers, which earned him two Primetime Emmy Award nominations. He also co-owns the restaurant chain Wahlburgers with his brothers Paul and Mark. In 2025, Wahlberg was inducted into the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Alumni Hall of Fame and received a lifetime achievement award from the Boston Arts Academy Foundation.
