Vincent D’Onofrio

Vincent Philip D'Onofrio, born June 30, 1959, is an American actor and filmmaker. He is recognized for a wide range of leading and supporting roles across film and television. His prominent work includes portraying Private Leonard "Gomer Pyle" Lawrence in Full Metal Jacket, author Robert E. Howard in The Whole Wide World, Edgar in Men in Black, serial killer Carl Stargher in The Cell, Detective Robert Goren in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Victor "Vic" Hoskins in Jurassic World. He is also widely known for portraying Wilson Fisk / Kingpin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, D'Onofrio is of Italian descent. His father worked as an interior decorator and engaged in amateur theater, while his maternal grandparents established the first Italian restaurant in Hawaii. The youngest of three siblings, D'Onofrio was raised in Hawaii and Colorado before moving to Hialeah, Florida, following his parents' divorce. As a teenager, he learned magic tricks from local Cuban entertainers and gained technical stage experience working on set construction and sound production for community theater projects managed by his father. He graduated from Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School.

After attending the University of Colorado for eighteen months, D'Onofrio moved to New York to study method acting at the American Stanislavsky Theater and the Actors Studio. He supported himself working as a bouncer, bodyguard, and delivery driver while acting in student films and stage plays. He made his Broadway debut in 1984 in Open Admissions. D'Onofrio achieved a major career breakthrough in 1987 when he played Private Lawrence in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, a role for which he gained 70 pounds.

Following his breakthrough, D'Onofrio appeared in movies such as Adventures in Babysitting, Mystic Pizza, The Blood of Heroes, The Player, Household Saints, and Ed Wood. His performance as Robert E. Howard in The Whole Wide World earned him Best Actor honors at the Seattle International Film Festival and the Lone Star Film & Television Awards. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he starred in Men in Black, Steal This Movie!, and The Cell, and received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for a guest role on Homicide: Life on the Street.

In 2001, D'Onofrio began playing Detective Robert Goren on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, remaining with the series through its tenth and final season. His later film credits include Thumbsucker, The Break-Up, Brooklyn's Finest, Chained, Escape Plan, The Judge, and Jurassic World. In 2015, he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wilson Fisk in Daredevil, later reprising the character in Hawkeye, Echo, and Daredevil: Born Again, on which he also served as an executive producer.

Beyond acting, D'Onofrio has directed and produced several projects, including the short film Five Minutes, Mr. Welles, the feature slasher Don't Go in the Woods, and the western film The Kid. He also voiced a character in the video game Dishonored 2, performed musically as the country singer character George Geronimo Gerkie, and joined the cast of the series Godfather of Harlem.
