Noah Wyle

Noah Strausser Speer Wyle is an American actor, television director, producer, and writer. He is widely recognized for his portrayal of Dr. John Carter in the NBC medical drama ER and Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch in the HBO Max drama The Pitt. His work across television and film has earned him critical acclaim, including six Actor Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and four Primetime Emmy Awards.

Wyle was born on June 4, 1971, in Hollywood, California, to Marjorie Speer, a nurse, and Stephen Wyle, an electrical engineer and entrepreneur. Raised in Los Angeles, he attended Gardner Street Elementary School, Oakwood School, and The Thacher School in Ojai. He first acted on stage during his high school years, which led him to write, direct, and perform in school plays and participate in the Cherubs Theatre Arts program at Northwestern University. After graduating high school in 1989, he pursued a professional acting career.

His early career included Los Angeles stage productions, a guest spot on the miniseries Blind Faith, and minor film roles in works such as Crooked Hearts, Swing Kids, and Aaron Sorkin's courtroom drama A Few Good Men. In 1994, Wyle secured his breakthrough role as medical student John Carter in the pilot of ER. The series became a massive commercial and critical success, and Wyle remained a core member of the ensemble through its eleventh season, eventually appearing in 254 episodes—more than any other major cast member.

Alongside his extended run on ER, Wyle took on diverse acting roles in television and film. He portrayed Steve Jobs in the 1999 TNT television movie Pirates of Silicon Valley and appeared in supporting film roles in Donnie Darko, White Oleander, and Enough. Beyond acting, Wyle spent over 20 years serving as the artistic producer of the Blank Theatre Company in Los Angeles, where he produced local plays and supported young playwrights, winning an NAACP Theatre Award for his work on The Wild Party in 2005.

Following his initial departure from ER, Wyle starred as Flynn Carsen in TNT's popular TV movie trilogy starting with The Librarian: Quest for the Spear, later extending into a broader franchise. He subsequently led the cast of the TNT science fiction series Falling Skies from 2011 to 2015, playing Tom Mason and serving as a producer and director on the show. He also appeared in Oliver Stone's W., earned a Critics' Choice Award nomination for the CBS miniseries The Red Line, and joined the main cast of the Prime Video series Leverage: Redemption.
