Alexis Bledel

Kimberly Alexis Bledel is an American actress and model best known for her roles as Rory Gilmore on the television series Gilmore Girls and Emily Malek on The Handmaid's Tale. Born on September 16, 1981, she has established a long career across television, film, and theater, also gaining recognition for her recurring role on Mad Men and her work in the 2016 Netflix revival Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Bledel was born in Houston, Texas, to Nanette, a gift processor and flight attendant, and Martín Bledel. Her father was born in Argentina, while her mother was raised in Mexico. Raised in a Spanish-speaking household, Bledel did not learn English until she began school and identifies as Latina. Encouraged by her mother to overcome shyness, she performed in local community theater productions of Our Town and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz as a child. She was scouted at a shopping mall for fashion modeling and graduated from St. Agnes Academy in 1999 before briefly attending New York University.

Bledel made her television debut in 2000 starring as Rory Gilmore opposite Lauren Graham in the comedy-drama series Gilmore Girls, which ran for seven seasons. She made her feature film debut in the 2002 Disney live-action adaptation Tuck Everlasting, having previously appeared as an uncredited extra in Rushmore. In 2005, she starred as aspiring artist Lena Kaligaris in the film adaptation of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and portrayed Becky in the neo-noir crime thriller Sin City.

Following the conclusion of Gilmore Girls, Bledel appeared in feature films including I'm Reed Fish, Post Grad, and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. Her additional screen projects include the romantic comedy The Good Guy, a guest role in the series finale of ER, the historical drama The Conspirator, and the Canadian drama The Kate Logan Affair. She also performed in the Manhattan Theatre Club's stage production Regrets, starred in the television project Us & Them, and appeared in the 2015 movie Jenny's Wedding.

In 2016, Bledel reprised her breakthrough role as Rory Gilmore in Netflix's four-part event series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Beginning in 2017, she joined the cast of Hulu's drama series The Handmaid's Tale as Ofglen, later known as Emily Malek. Her role was expanded to a series regular for its second season, and she remained with the show through its fourth season before making a special guest appearance in the series finale.

Over the course of her career, Bledel has earned notable industry recognition. For her performance in The Handmaid's Tale, she received four Primetime Emmy Award nominations, winning Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series, along with three Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. She was previously nominated for Satellite, Teen Choice, and Young Artist Awards for Gilmore Girls. In her personal life, Bledel was in a relationship with actor Milo Ventimiglia from 2002 to 2006. She married actor Vincent Kartheiser in 2014, with whom she has a son, before their divorce was finalized in 2022.
