Michael James Vogel (born July 17, 1979) is an American actor and model. Born in Abington Township, Pennsylvania, to Kathy and Jim Vogel, he was raised in Warminster Township, Pennsylvania. He is of German descent and grew up alongside two younger siblings, Daniel Aaron and Kristin. Vogel attended William Tennent High School, where he competed on the freshman wrestling team, and later attended Cairn University in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, in 1998. During the early 2000s, he frequently traveled to New York City to audition for modeling slots and acting roles.
Vogel made an early television appearance in 1993 on Nickelodeon GUTS under the nickname Mike "Flea" Vogel, earning a silver medal. His modeling career began with modeling jeans for Levi Strauss & Company. He transitioned into television acting with a recurring role on Grounded for Life between 2001 and 2004. Vogel made his feature film debut in the skateboarding-themed movie Grind in August 2003, followed by playing Heath in MTV's made-for-television adaptation of Wuthering Heights and appearing in the box-office success remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
In 2005, Vogel appeared in four films: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Supercross, Havoc, and Rumor Has It.... He followed these in 2006 with the disaster film Poseidon, having backed out of playing Angel in X-Men: The Last Stand to join the production. That same year, he appeared in Caffeine and signed on for Open Graves, which was shot in Spain. In 2007, he appeared in horror release The Deaths of Ian Stone.
Over the following years, Vogel appeared across a variety of film and television projects. In 2009, he starred in Across the Hall and Open Graves. His 2010 projects included She's Out of My League, Blue Valentine, Heaven's Rain, and the television series Miami Medical. In 2011, he appeared in What's Your Number?, portrayed Johnny Foote in The Help, and played Dean on the drama series Pan Am. Vogel's 2013 work included Jake Squared, McCanick, the first six episodes of Bates Motel, and starring as Dale "Barbie" Barbara on CBS's Under the Dome, which ran for three seasons through September 2015.
Vogel subsequently appeared in the television film In My Dreams and the thriller The Boy in 2014, followed by the miniseries Childhood's End in 2015. In 2017, he portrayed author Lee Strobel in The Case for Christ and starred as Capt. Adam Dalton on the NBC military drama The Brave. He later starred in the 2019 Netflix thriller Secret Obsession, filmed the ABC pilot Triangle, and was cast in the Netflix series Sex/Life in March 2020.
In addition to his acting career, Vogel was ranked #96 on BuddyTV's list of TV's Sexiest Men of 2011. In January 2003, he married former model Courtney. The couple has three children: Cassy Renee, Charlee Bea, and Gabriel James, and they reside in Nashville, Tennessee.
