Adam Brody

Adam Jared Brody (born December 15, 1979) is an American actor, musician, and writer. He first gained widespread recognition for his breakout role as Seth Cohen on the Fox television series The O.C., which aired from 2003 to 2007. Later in his career, he achieved further critical acclaim for his starring role as Rabbi Noah Roklov in the Netflix romantic comedy series Nobody Wants This.

Brody was born in San Diego, California, to Valerie Jill, a graphic artist, and Mark Alan Brody, an attorney. His parents are both Jewish and originally from Detroit. Raised in suburban San Diego with younger twin brothers, Sean and Matthew, Brody attended Wangenheim Middle School and Scripps Ranch High School. During his youth, he spent much of his time surfing. After attending MiraCosta College for one year, he dropped out at age 19 and moved to Hollywood to pursue acting.

Following a year of training and auditioning, Brody landed the role of Barry Williams in the television film Growing Up Brady (2000) and appeared in the series The Sausage Factory and the movie American Pie 2. In 2002, he was cast in a recurring role as Dave Rygalski on the comedy-drama series Gilmore Girls. His major breakthrough arrived in 2003 when he began playing Seth Cohen on The O.C., a role that established him as a teen idol and led to him becoming the first male featured on the cover of Elle Girl magazine.

During and after his time on television, Brody transitioned into film roles, appearing in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), Thank You for Smoking (2006), In the Land of Women (2007), Smiley Face (2007), and Jennifer's Body (2009). In the 2010s, he appeared in films including Cop Out (2010), Scream 4 (2011), Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012), Lovelace (2013), and Sleeping with Other People (2015). He also starred in and produced the television drama series StartUp from 2016 to 2018.

Brody later portrayed the adult superhero counterpart of Jack Dylan Grazer's character in Shazam! (2019) and Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023). His subsequent film credits include the thrillers Ready or Not (2019) and Promising Young Woman (2020), as well as the mystery film The Kid Detective (2020) and the Hulu miniseries Fleishman Is in Trouble (2022). In 2024, he began starring in Nobody Wants This.

Beyond acting, Brody has engaged in writing and music. He co-wrote the 2003 short film Home Security and co-authored the 2007 DC Wildstorm comic book miniseries Red Menace. As a drummer, he performed with the indie rock band Big Japan, which released the album Music for Dummies in 2005, and later joined the project band The Shortcoats. For his performance in Nobody Wants This, he won a Critics' Choice Television Award and earned nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. Brody married actress Leighton Meester in 2014, and the couple has two children.
