Jennifer Coolidge

Jennifer Coolidge is an American actress born on August 28, 1961, in Boston, Massachusetts. She gained widespread recognition for her comedic roles in major film franchises, such as playing Jeanine Stifler in the American Pie series (1999–2012) and Paulette Bonafonté Parcelle in the Legally Blonde series (2001–2003). Over her career, she has performed in numerous feature films, television sitcoms, and mockumentary projects, eventually earning critical acclaim and major industry accolades for her dramatic and comedic television performances.

Raised in Norwell, Massachusetts, Coolidge played the clarinet as a child and attended orchestra camp. She was educated at Norwell High School and the Cambridge School of Weston before pursuing higher education at Emerson College in Boston and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. While attending college, she initially aspired to become a dramatic actress, drawing inspiration from Meryl Streep, but later shifted her focus toward comedic character acting. During her time as a drama student in New York, she worked as a waitress alongside fellow aspiring actress Sandra Bullock.

Coolidge made her first television appearance in a 1993 episode of Seinfeld and became a cast regular on the short-lived sketch comedy series She TV in 1994. She trained and performed with the Los Angeles-based improv and sketch comedy troupe The Groundlings. Throughout the late 1990s, she appeared in small film roles, including A Night at the Roxbury, and provided the voice of Miss Kremzer on the animated series King of the Hill. Her major breakthrough arrived in 1999 when she was cast as Stifler's mom in the box-office success American Pie, a role she subsequently reprised in multiple sequels.

Following her breakthrough, Coolidge established a recurring collaboration with filmmaker Christopher Guest, starring in four of his improv mockumentary films: Best in Show (2000), A Mighty Wind (2003), For Your Consideration (2006), and Mascots (2016). On television, she joined the main cast of the NBC sitcom Joey from 2004 to 2006, playing agent Bobbie Morganstern. Later, she starred as Zofia "Sophie" Kaczyński in the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls from 2011 to 2017. Her television career also includes recurring roles on The Secret Life of the American Teenager and guest appearances on shows such as Sex and the City, Frasier, and Friends.

Coolidge's feature film credits span a wide variety of comedies, including Pootie Tang (2001), A Cinderella Story (2004), Click (2006), Date Movie (2006), Epic Movie (2007), Promising Young Woman (2020), Single All the Way (2021), and Shotgun Wedding (2022). She has also voiced characters in animated films like Robots (2005) and The Emoji Movie (2017). In 2011, Coolidge expanded her career by embarking on a two-year international stand-up comedy tour titled Yours for the Night, which included performances across the world.

Coolidge achieved critical acclaim for her portrayal of Tanya McQuoid in the HBO anthology series The White Lotus (2021–2022). Her performance earned her two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award. Following this success, she was named to the Time 100 list of the world's most influential people in 2023 and received the Hasty Pudding Theatricals Woman of the Year award. Outside of acting, Coolidge is active in charitable work supporting animal rights and AIDS assistance. She attempts to maintain a plant-based lifestyle and was crowned PETA's Vegan Queen in 2023.
