She briefly attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco for one semester before moving back home and transferring to the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles.

In 2006, she became the lead subject of The Hills, which chronicled her personal life, living arrangements, and career pursuits in Los Angeles. Beyond reality television, Conrad has made guest appearances on programs such as Greek, Family Guy, and America's Next Top Model, and she launched a single-season podcast titled Asking for a Friend in 2019.
Throughout her career, Conrad has established several commercial brands in fashion and cosmetics. She debuted her first fashion line, The Lauren Conrad Collection, in 2008, followed by the launch of LC Lauren Conrad with Kohl's in 2009, which expanded to include bedding, swimwear, and children's clothing. In 2011, she launched the apparel brand Paper Crown, which ran until 2018, as well as the online outlet The Beauty Department. Conrad co-founded the fair-trade online marketplace The Little Market in 2013, introduced the line Lauren Conrad Beauty in 2020, and released the fragrance LOVED by Lauren Conrad in 2022.

She authored two sequels, Sweet Little Lies and Sugar and Spice, in 2010. She later released a spin-off novel trilogy consisting of The Fame Game, Starstruck, and Infamous between 2012 and 2013. Additionally, Conrad wrote two non-fiction style guides, Lauren Conrad Style and Lauren Conrad Beauty.
Conrad married musician William Tell on September 13, 2014, in California. The couple has two sons, born in July 2017 and October 2019.
