Port was born on March 4, 1985, in Los Angeles to Jeffrey and Vicki Port, and was raised in a Jewish household alongside a brother and three sisters. Her father owned the fashion company Swarm. She attended Warner Avenue Elementary School, Crossroads School, and later the University of Southern California, graduating in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in gender studies. Prior to her main television career, she held internships at Women's Wear Daily and W magazines.
While filming early seasons of The Hills, Port interned at Teen Vogue under Lisa Love, eventually serving as the magazine's West Coast fashion contributor until 2008. She then interned with Kelly Cutrone's public relations firm, People's Revolution. Port debuted her fashion line, Whitney Eve, in March 2008. Later that year, she relocated to New York City to intern for Diane von Fürstenberg and starred in her own spin-off reality series, The City. The show documented her career, personal life, and fashion business before its cancellation in 2010.
Following her initial reality television run, Port expanded into executive producing, writing, and hosting. She executive produced and appeared in the 2010 web series Hollywood Is Like High School with Money, hosted the Hulu game show Genuine Ken in 2011, and published her book True Whit: Designing a Life of Style, Beauty, and Fun in February 2011. In 2012, she served as a judge on the eighth cycle of Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model and made a cameo appearance in the film What To Expect When You're Expecting.
Port returned to MTV reality television as a cast member on the reboot series The Hills: New Beginnings, which was announced in 2018. In addition to her media ventures, she launched her podcast With Whit in August 2019 and her clothing line CozeCo in June 2021. She also runs a YouTube channel originally launched in 2012, where she and her husband produce reaction and recap videos covering various MTV reality television programs.
Port married former The City producer Tim Rosenman on November 7, 2015, and the couple has one son, born in July 2017.
