Spencer Pratt

Spencer William Pratt is an American reality television personality. He came to prominence after joining the cast of the MTV reality television series The Hills alongside his partner Heidi Montag. His involvement in a high-profile feud with Montag's fellow cast member Lauren Conrad became a central focus of the show. Over his career, Pratt has appeared in numerous television projects, executive produced media content, launched business endeavors, and engaged in local politics.

Pratt was born on August 14, 1983, in Los Angeles, California, to Janet Pratt and William "Skip" Pratt, a dentist. He attended the Crossroads School in Santa Monica. Pratt initially dropped out of college to pursue television acting before re-enrolling at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where he completed his undergraduate degree in political science in December 2013.

Pratt began his television career in 2005 on the reality series The Princes of Malibu, serving as creator and executive producer while acting as a manager, publicist, agent, and stylist for Brody Jenner. In 2007, he began dating Montag and joined MTV's The Hills during its third season. Rumors surrounding a sex tape fueled an ongoing feud between Pratt, Montag, and Conrad that spanned subsequent seasons. Pratt later returned to the franchise for the reboot series The Hills: New Beginnings, which highlighted his business, Pratt Daddy Crystals, before its cancellation after two seasons.

Throughout his career, Pratt made frequent media and television appearances alongside Montag. The couple competed on the NBC series I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2009, during which Pratt released the rap track "I'm a Celebrity." They also competed on the British series Celebrity Big Brother in 2013, finishing as runners-up, and returned for the show's nineteenth series in 2017. Their other television credits include How I Met Your Mother, We TV's Marriage Boot Camp, and The Masked Singer. In 2025, Pratt won $50,000 for disaster relief on The Weakest Link, and in 2026, he published a memoir entitled The Guy You Loved to Hate: Confessions from a Reality TV Villain.

In his personal life, Pratt eloped with Montag in Mexico in November 2008, followed by a wedding ceremony in Pasadena in April 2009. Despite a brief divorce filing in 2010, the couple reconciled, renewed their vows, and have two children. In September 2010, Pratt was arrested and jailed in Costa Rica for attempting to board an aircraft with hunting weapons, resulting in a ban from re-entering the country.

In January 2025, Pratt's home in Pacific Palisades was destroyed in the Palisades Fire, leading him to file lawsuits against the city of Los Angeles and call for official investigations into local leadership. On the one-year anniversary of the fire in January 2026, Pratt announced a candidacy for Mayor of Los Angeles. Running as a self-described populist focused on crime, homelessness, and public safety, Pratt finished third in the primary election with 25.5% of the vote and did not advance to the general election.

Pratt's public persona as a television antagonist earned him recognition, including a spot on TV Guide's 2013 list of "The 60 Nastiest Villains of All Time" and being voted the "Greatest Reality TV Villain" in a 2015 Yahoo! fan poll.
