Enrique Iglesias

Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler, born on May 8, 1975, in Madrid, Spain, is a Spanish singer and songwriter. He is the youngest child of singer Julio Iglesias and socialite Isabel Preysler. Iglesias was born with a rare condition called situs inversus, in which some major organs are situated on the opposite side of the body. Following the 1981 kidnapping of his grandfather, he moved to Miami to live with his father and was raised primarily by his nanny, Elvira Olivares. After attending Gulliver Preparatory School, he studied business at the University of Miami before dropping out to pursue a music career.

Iglesias began his recording career secretly under the stage name Enrique Martínez to avoid relying on his famous family surname. After signing with the Mexican label Fonovisa, he released his debut self-titled Spanish album in 1995. The record won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Performance and earned Platinum certification in the United States. He followed this success with the Spanish albums Vivir in 1997 and Cosas del Amor in 1998, supported by large international arena and stadium tours, becoming the bestselling Spanish-language act of the decade.

In 1999, Iglesias transitioned into the mainstream English-language market. His single "Bailamos", recorded for the soundtrack of the film Wild Wild West, reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. He subsequently signed a US$68 million multi-album deal with Interscope Records and released his English debut album, Enrique, which included "Rhythm Divine" and "Be with You". In 2001, he released Escape, his most commercially successful album to date, which sold over 10 million copies worldwide and contained the international hit single "Hero".

While expanding his English-language pop career, Iglesias continued releasing Spanish projects through Universal Music Latin. His 2002 album Quizás debuted at number twelve on the Billboard 200 and won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. In 2003, he released his seventh album, 7, inspired by 1980s rock and pop, accompanied by the global Seven World Tour. He later parted with Interscope and signed with Republic Records in 2010, releasing the bilingual albums Euphoria and Sex and Love.

In 2015, Iglesias left Universal Music Group after more than a decade and signed with Sony Music. He subsequently released the bilingual projects Final (Vol. 1) and Final (Vol. 2) through Sony Music Latin and RCA Records. Over his career, he has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, making him one of the best-selling Latin music artists in history.

Iglesias holds the record for the most number-one songs on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart with 27 hits, as well as on the Latin Pop Airplay chart with 24 hits. He also holds 14 number-ones on Billboard's Dance charts, the most for any male artist. Honored with the title King of Latin Pop, he was recognized as the Top Latin Artist of All Time at the Latin Billboard Awards in October 2022.
